Default The world around us forum

The World around us forum is a place for us to discuss events taking place in our day to day lives that don't really fit into specific issue categories here at lifesupporters.com.

Does anyone think that this forum would work better instead of the current events forum and as such, content from current events would be better suited for this category?

Thanks.

Current events:"Paris hilton goes to jail" - which is mostly internationally or US-based.

Off-topic: "South African government creates anarchy as driver's license system fails the nation."

As the off-topic topic would be in "the world around us", if it exists. It was part of my duties to check the media for stories on that, and how people around me respond.

So yes, I can see the merrit of having current events and the new forum. Current events for those newsitems which are far away, and "the world around us" whenever something is directly affecting us.

Sorry bud, I don't understand your reference

Just to clarify, do you think we need both the "current events" subforum and the "world around us" forum?

Yes. Current events is something we are not directly involved in. The world around is, would be something we must be involved in. We may have an opinion of Paris Hilton, but that is just because of the media and such. We don't know her. Discussion of Ms. Hilton does not require the topic creator to give any more information than a weblink.

For instance, I would not consider posting the stories of my trip to South Africa in Current events. But I would post it in "The world around us." That is something I am directly involved with, and requires the topic creator to respond to the post, and give lots of information about whatever goes on.

The "World Around us" is much more involved in nature, and let's us read about members' lives. At least I think it will become something of that nature.

I think I like this forum name better than current events. I always felt like I needed a weblink or a news article to put anything in the current events area. Now I can do that if it so suits me but I can also discuss things that have more meaning to me and my world. It will also be fun to learn more about everyone else's world. I have never been out of the US so hearing what things are like elsewhere is very interesting for me.

Ya I like it a lot more than current events as well. Not only that but it helped absorb the Political and Religion forums (which I don't really like but there a part of life ya know) and compressing the forums is always a good thing.
