Default Woman has miscarriage in waiting room..

ALBERTA - The Calgary Health Region has admitted it was at fault when a shortage of beds left a woman to miscarry in a crowded waiting room.

Dr. Chris Eagle says there should have been some way to give 34-year-old Rose Lundy privacy even if no bed was available.

Rick Lundy, the woman's husband, pleaded with emergency room staff at Peter Lougheed Hospital to help his wife find privacy. She was three months pregnant.

He was told there were no beds available. She was left to go through this tragic experience in full view of about 40 people.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What used to be a great health-care system sure has gone downhill!

How awful. What happened to medical people caring for the sick? Money is definitely the root of all evil.

this is the result of all the cut backs the government has done in our healthcare. it's sick isn't it? that poor woman!! it's bad enough she had a miscarriage in front of 40 people but, if she was attended to properly, they might of been able to stop the miscarriage. i wonder if this story will wake up the governement enough to stop the cut backs.

when i took kass to the hospital when her throat was completely shut closed (breathing issue there!!!), we waited in the waiting room for a good 2 1/2 hours before her name was called. then we waited in the room the doctor sees you in for a good 2 1/2 hours there too, then when we got transfered to another room, we waited another 3 hours or so until she was actually in her own room on the right floor. so, by the time she got the meds she needed to stop the swelling from going any further, it was 5 hours later. isn't that just terrible? the staff told me that we didn't wait long at all. normal waiting periods are double of what we waited.

something needs to change. one doctor in the emergency is NOT enough to see all the patients that come in. not enough nurses either. it's really sad how our healthcare has declined.

That is why so many people here don't want government controlled health care. Then they couldn't sue when incompetent things happened. Then again, you can't blame all the health workers. They are doing all they can with what they have.

Star, that was a really bad story. I'm sure they are usually better in responding, but damn!

nope. everybody waits as far as i can see. they say life threatening situations (like heart attack..) go first but i thought not being able to breathe properly would fall into that category!! guess not! i'm just glad she's okay now.

we can sue doctors here for malpractice and if someone does happen to die, they can sue. it's just long and usually goes through insurances. i found that out when kass was in the hospital. i was talking with a lady who was admitted there and she happened to have had the same surgeon as hubby did (the one who totally butchered his shoulder) and she's in the process of suing him for butchering her. we're probably going to look into it because hubby can't work now because of what he did to his bisep and shoulder.

In the USA the statute of limitation is 2 years so check right away to see what the CA laws are on that. So what if it takes 10 years. It'll come in right in time for you guys to retire early.

that's true DA- there is no effective triage w/socialized health care- everyone has the right to the same bed- one of those beds could have been occupied by omeone w/ a sprained toe- here a sprained toe would never go to the ER b/c it's not worth the time or expense- people see that as sad but I think it's an effective step in the triage system (making a patient decide if they are sick enough to warrant the ER)
