Why I Support The Death Penalty
from CNN.com:
Father Charged In Girls' Deaths
ZION, Illinois (CNN) -- Police have taken Jerry Hobbs into custody and charged him with murdering his 8-year-old daughter, Laura, and her best friend, 9-year-old Krystal Tobias.
The second-grade classmates are believed to have been stabbed to death Sunday on Mother's Day.
He was reported to have found the girls' bodies early Monday in a wooded park just blocks away from their elementary school, said police in Zion, about 40 miles north of Chicago.
Lake County State's Attorney Michael Waller declined to speculate on a motive, saying there was no "rational explanation" for the killings.
Hobbs, 34, could face the death penalty. But Waller said whether to pursue it is not a decision he wants to make "in the heat of the moment."
"The arrest today is the first step in the process of bringing this person to justice," he said.
Waller said the girls were not lured to the park; rather they encountered Hobbs there.
Waller said police questioned several relatives, but the others "didn't pique the officers' interest like he did."
"We believe we have a compelling case against this defendant, and all of that will come out in due course," he said.
Hobbs' bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
Hobbs was released from prison in Texas last month after serving nearly two years for violating his probation. He had been serving time after pleading guilty to assault in 2001 against Laura's mother, Sheila Hollabaugh, said Rick Mahler, an assistant district attorney in Wichita Falls, Texas.
"He started chasing people around with a chainsaw that was running," Mahler said. "Somebody hit him with a shovel, knocked him down. Those people held him until the police arrived."
Hobbs was arrested again in 2003 after failing to show up for visits with his probation officer and skipping anger management classes.
In addition, Hobbs has served time in county jails on a variety of misdemeanor charges, ranging from assault to possession of marijuana and resisting arrest, Mahler said.
School Superintendent Connie Collins said the killings have left the community "in terrible shock."
"It's very difficult to begin to understand something like this," Collins said. "It's something that was not expected. In a community like this, we have never had this type of experience, so it's been very difficult for everyone."

This man has already DONE prison time. OBVIOULSY, he wasn't rehabilitated. I wouldn't even bother with lethal injection....I'd plug in the 'big chair'.
BTW: My Republican Team Leader lives in this particular town and has a granddaughter. For a couple of days, with only 20,000 in this town, those people were just shocked and dazed.

Between this situation and the Precious Doe case I am to disqusted to even watch the news anymore.
I have always believed in the death penalty, and I think it should be enforced more WITHOUT 10 friggin years of appeals, people like this should be publicly executed and tourtured. Rehibilitation my arse why should we care if they can be rehabilitaded or not?? Did these people care about the children they murdered??? PLUS this moron was locked up for chasing kids with a chain saw and they let him out because he didn't actually hurt anyone!! I just can't fuigure out why our justice system constantly gives these animals another chance... If it we're up to me I would do Mass Executions so these scum bags couldn't eat up our tax dollars.

I don't even think this guy was a pedophile. He killed his own daughter and her little friend for NO REASON! That's just insane.

He was not a sex offender, his attorney was on Hannity & Colmes with the Prosecution. Don't know if you seen it.
But he states that his daughter supposed to be home at a certian time and she didn't come home so he went to get her, she didn't want to come home so he Punched her in the face 2 times!!! the best friend came to comfort his daughter he punched her in the face 2 times then he CLAIMS he got a patato knife from the friend.. ( witch is doubtful) and stabbed his daughter 22 times and the girl 11 times. The Prosecuter stated that you could see the rage that this man had he stabed both of them in the eyes and stabbed his daughter so hard that it punchured her spine.

No...I didn't see that interview at all. What a complete FREAK! Can you imagine being married to someone who has the capacity of doing that? Then again, I can't believe the wife let him back into the home after doing jail time for abusing her to begin with. I'm sure it wasn't a one time incident...he's probably been abusing the whole family for years (other than during his incarceration time).

Jackson's case worker was telling me how heart breaking it was when parents get out of jail for abuse and have their kids given right back to them. Our system is just set up to continue giving them a second chance.....until they kill the child. It makes no sense.
Yes...the Precious Doe case was perhaps even worse since the mother participated. I wonder how people like that ever sleep again without having nightmares? How does any one person get that messed up?

My life goal has always been to work for child protective services. I am so glad it didn't work out, because I would probably be in jail for hurting parents like that

I can't believe how sick you have to be to do something this, echhh. I can't even imagine punching my kid, nevermind the face and then taking a knife to her.
I can't believe that they don't even want to discuss a possible death penalty at this point. Hell, get a rope and hang him from the nearest tree.
