What were the chances??
Skydiver's Hit, Killed By Plane
DELAND, Fla. - A man who was skydiving in central Florida was killed when he was struck by the wing of a plane as he descended over an airport, losing both his legs in the accident.
Albert Wing was hit by the airplane that he had jumped from Saturday morning, Police Cmdr. Randel Henderson said. Police said skydiver had opened his parachute when the left wing struck him at about 600 feet.
His legs were severed at the knees, but he managed to land near an airport.
Wing was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, Henderson said.
"The airplane landed safely and police investigators observed damage to the plane's left wing," police said in a written statement.
DeLand is about 40 miles north of Orlando.
Fourteen other skydivers were in the air at the time, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker said.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were investigating.
Skydive DeLand, which organized the jump, said Saturday's accident was unusual. The death was the second involving the company this year.

OMG! what bad luck! His last name was wing and he gets hit by the wing of a plane to boot!
Goes to show that when it's your time to go, it's your time to go. Sad story.

wow...
I thought planes couldn't fly in zones marked for parachute operations (they say on maps), I'll have to look into that.

I don't see how thats even possible. What did he do, actually jump as high as he could out of the plane?

I think normally the aircraft stays up for awhile after they jump to make sure that doesn't happen, not positive though...
I still want to go skydive sometime, so cool.

A buddy of mine went skydiving and said that you don't actually breath during the actual dive because there's enough air in your blood from what goes through your skin. He also said that diving through clouds can make you suffocate.

I would never go skydiving or bungy jumping. NEVER! I am so terrified of heights it isn't funny. I can't even climb a latter without getting all dizzy. no thank you!

i'm scared of heights too, but i'm usually ok if i'm inside or on something solid (like the empire state building).
When I fly i'm actually pretty afraid of the height, but I feel so at home. i'm weird

If I had a parachute.
I think if I went skydiving I would be scared out of my mind for the first 10 - 20 seconds and then my adrenaline would kick in and I'd love it...

I used to love flying but the Beachcraft 1000 pretty much did me in. Actually, the Hercules didn't do much for my confidence level either.
