Bar sued over puke tax

A Brazilian man is suing a bar in Brazil which charged him a £4 puke tax.

Luiz Fernandes Peres had the 'tax' added to his bill after a friend was sick in the toilet.

The Taverna Pub Medieval Bar in Natal imposes the fee whenever anyone is sick on the premises.

But an angry Mr Peres told Terra Noticias Populares: "I consider this extortion."

I don't know, in Brazil, 4 £ is extortion - you know how low the minim wage is there?

Anywhere else- I totally agree! They should take it outside and if they're not sober enough to, well then maybe they'd better have some extra cash with them!

It would be extortion if chances of getting sick were as high in any place. For cafes and bars that is absolutely not true. So there is a rationale in the measure.

4 £ is a hefty fee though. the owner could call the police who would fine every drunkard, fur drunkenness in a public place. So let the owner have his small profit. He has to clean up the mess, and not the drunkard.

Personally I hate cleaning up after some drunk spewed all over the place so I have no problem with it at all. Of course, it may deter people from drinking as much as they do in the bar for fear of paying the tax so they may be doing their business more harm than good.

I think it would deffinately hurt the business. I've worked in bars and blood, puke and pee come with the territory when people are over-drinking. Why not cut them off instead when they've had enough to drink? that would solve a lot of the gross problems. actually, that's what bartenders are supposed to do here but they rarely do.

I worked as a chambermaid in hotels too and it isn't much prettier in those rooms either. so, it's not just the bars. it's everywhere where they serve booze or people are able to party.

a puke tax just sounds so rediculous to me. I really don't think it would solve the problem of people puking.

I can clean up many things....but that just wouldn't be one of them.

It's disgusting, especially when you see what they just ate only hours before in it.

I can't touch that either. I always get Gerry to clean up the kid puke (when they were little and didn['t know how to run to that bathroom). He'll be doing it again with erika because i just can't handle that at all. I puke myself! gross!

I have a lot of trouble with puke, p00p, and bad breath, they all trigger my gag reflex and make me sweat like a pig.
