CANOE -- CNEWS - Canada: Officer parks in disabled parking spot
Time will tell if the Peel Police end up issuing one of their own an embarrassing infraction ticket and if all disabled Ontarians will be issued an apology. Do you think the Officer should be issued a ticket? What do you think? |

Unless there was an emergency, a fine should be in order.

Yes I do. Just because he is a police officer doesn't exempt him from the rules that the rest of us have to follow. I have a brother in a wheel chair and he is suffering from a few other things now because of it and I know how hard it is for him just to get up in the morning. I also have my friend with the brain damaged son and I know his difficulties. These people have designated spots for a reason and no one should feel they are getting special treatment. Try living a day in their shoes and you wouldn't deny them this one "Luxury". Even in an emergency, then the officer could have pulled right up to the building avoiding parking spots altoghether so I don't even bye that one.

That would depend then on the circumstances. If you have to rush to a robbery, and you have the choice of parking there or 500 yards away, I think there may be justification for taking that spot.
But I am a big supporter of increasing fines for people who serve to uphold the laws, or make the laws.
