North Korea Fires Two Missiles
Tuesday, July 04, 2006
The first missile landed in the Sea of Japan about 600 kilometers from mainland Japan, NHK said. The second is still on its way out.
Japanese government officials were trying to determine whether the missiles were Taepodong II, long-range ballistic missiles that have been sitting on a launch pad for weeks, or whether it was a different type of missile.
One U.S. government official told FOX News that if the first were the Taepodong missile, it was "a real big dud."
The United States and North Korea have been butting heads recently over Pyongyang's threatening to launch a missile that could reach parts of the western U.S. North Korea is believed to have nuclear weapons and an intercontinental missile would give it a delivery system.
Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns said on Monday that North Korea should try to avoid "any type of provocative activity" and return to negotiations on its nuclear weapons program

The news has pointed out that these were two smaller missiles, not the larger one that has sat in launch for 3 weeks but was not used on this test. Some of the media think N Korea is only trying to get attention. I think we should nip it in the bud at the first sign of aggression towards the US or any of our allies. That larger missile is a serious threat to many.
