Man who signs name as God may have to ...
surrender his driver's license.
READING, Pennsylvania - The Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation told Paul Sewell in a letter Tuesday that he would have to turn over the license if he didn't provide his birth certificate and Social Security Card to the agency by Feb. 14.
The letter came less than a week after the Berks County Elections Board questioned Sewell's God signature on a voter registration form.
Sewell asked a Berks County Court to intervene in the PennDOT matter.
State law requires a driver to write his usual signature on the license and also states the department can cancel a license if the licensee was not entitled to it if the person gave incorrect information, if the person committed fraud in obtaining the license or if the license has been materially altered.
Sewell, a self-employed bond enforcement agent, has said he signs official documents as God because fugitives always preface their comments with "Oh, God" when he captures them. He said his co-workers thought that was funny and took to calling him God.
In his appeal to the court, he said "I do not know why they are cancelling my driver's license that I have had at age 16. Now I am 40."
He signed his appeal, God.

How did he get a drivers license with God on it anyway??? I thought you had to use the name on your birth certificate unless you had a marriage license or legally changed your name in court. Retard.

That's so funny, too! Maybe he should have signed "Moron" or "Retard" and they would have looked at him and said "Yep" and he wouldn't have had all this trouble...

Why not? I think the US has no bans on any name (including Jesus). The Netherlands does. On Jesus, Adolf and probably on God. But other than that, anything goes, unless it becomes something that is impossible to pronounce. Like a mom who wanted to name her child after the players of the Dutch football team. the name was something like SJRWADPFAESFUXAS.

SJRWADPFAESFUXAS Wow...that kid will be spending a long time in Kindergarten learning how to write his name!!
I could see this guy signing God to his work papers as a joke....since he's in a business where this maybe funny. However, on legal documents where a person's REAL NAME is needed....he can't make something up until he legally changes it in court. I'm not sure if there is a 'list' of names not allowed. I doubt you could get Jesus or God my itself....but I'm sure you could add it to your real surname.
I imagine this guy is doing for the publicity anyway.

Merika you reminded me of another great story, concerning signatures.
The Dutch word for signature is "handtekening", which means hand-drawing, if you translate it literally.
There was this guy who wanted to become a member of a specific organization. He filled in the form, and included with that, was his signature. The only "problem" was, that his signature was a drawing of a cartoon-like face.
His application was considered a hoax at first. He persisted, and eventually got accepted, as he had explained why he considered his drawing a signature. But easy is different.
