Hundreds killed in Iranian quake
Earthquake scene
There are fears that many people are buried under rubble
A strong earthquake has hit dozens of villages in southern Iran, killing at least 500 people and hurting many more.

The 6.4-magnitude quake struck just before 0600 (0230 GMT) and was centred near Zarand in Kerman province, 740km (460 miles) from the capital, Tehran.

Some 30,000 people in about 40 villages spread over a wide, mountainous area have been affected.

Casualties are expected to rise as rescue workers reach the province. Heavy rain is hampering rescue work.

State-run television in Iran and the local governor's office in Kerman said more than 500 people died as a result of the earthquake, which lasted 11 seconds.

After reading the article, most of the people who died lived in mud based homes. vs the ones who lived in cement homes.

It should be mandatory to live in block homes anymore, after I saw what the hurricanes did to the mobil homes here now Mud built homes there seems that block/ brick is the best way to go... guess it's the story of the b3 little pigs

Wars generally don't come down to one nation of people hating another nation of people. In any war the US has ever been involved in.....the soldiers and later contractors...have ended up loving the people of that country and many even marry there or adopt orphans. (EX: Germany, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc.)

War for the US has always been about reshaping, setting people free, protecting other nations and ofcourse....self preservation. I live in a military area where just about everyone makes 'towel head' jokes....but the truth is we have many Mid Eastern people here who run business' and they are treated with complete frienship and respect.

the leaders of a country do not represent that people's opinions in countries without democracy.
