The worldâs number one search engine, Google, has reportedly agreed to transfer the University of Californiaâs vast library books online, as part of Googleâs Books Library Project.
The University of Californiaâs (UC) library is among the most distinguished libraries of the world.
With this project, Google takes the first step to realize its goal of digitally scanning and transferring all printed books on earth to the virtual environment.
Harvard, Stanford, the University of Michigan, the University of Oxford, and the New York Public Library have also agreed to let Google access their library books and organize them online.
According to UC university officials, their extensive archive includes academic studies and research from the universityâs more than 100 libraries on 10 campuses.
âAnyone with access to internet will be able to access the university library with only a click,â a Google statement read.
According to Google, potential copyright infringement matters will be taken into consideration. When the library is online; there will also be restrictions for some users.
Spokesperson for the Digital Library Department, Jennifer Colvin told the press they would not allow all the books in their library online.
The agreement was signed two days ago. Colvin said the book transfer may start within weeks.
