Default Deadly E. coli outbreak traced to Calif. spinach

Consumers told to toss out bagged greens as illness spreads

WASHINGTON - A California natural foods company was linked Friday to a nationwide E. coli outbreak that has killed one person and sickened nearly 100 others. Supermarkets across the country pulled spinach from shelves, and consumers tossed out the leafy green.

Food and Drug Administration officials said that they had received reports of illness in 19 states. Twenty-nine people have been hospitalized, 14 of them with kidney failure.

The FDA warned people nationwide not to eat the spinach. Washing won’t get rid of the tenacious bug, though thorough cooking can kill it.

I guess one day all these hippie farmers will understand why REAL farmers spray their plants.

If anyone has a bag I have the 1-800 number for a refund. They are also offering a 'replacement' bag like ANYONE in their right mind would take that chance.

Default Birth control for India elephants

Elephants in the Indian state of West Bengal are to undergo a birth control scheme due to a lack of funds for their upkeep, the state government says.

Of West Bengal's 400 elephants, nearly 70 are tame and in service to private owners or the state forest department.

Forest guards use them to patrol the many wildlife sanctuaries.

But wildlife conservation groups have been angered by the proposed introduction of such birth control methods for the elephants. (BBC)

These people are so assinine. What do they THINK should be done...give Mr Elephant a giant condom. Isn't this better than them starving to death? And WHY WHY WHY is it such a shame for an elephant but perfectly NORMAL for our own 14 year old teens?

The spinach and greens were delicious. Had it in my salad a few days ago before the news told us to throw it out. I'm still feelin great. *waits to have kidney failure*
