That's why early mentioning of the words 'foster family' or 'college fund' are so important in bringing a kid up.

Society's role is not to educate children, family's role is. The boundries are not so thin as one might think.

Phisical abuse and emotional abuse are for the court. Anything else should be left to the parents, in my book.

Hmmmm.......you know that the only way to put your kid into foster care is to go to court...........so "mentioning of the words Foster Care'" really is not a "family's role."

But maybe its an Old Romanian Tradition??

I meant telling my hypothetical kid, when s/he complains about my rules, that there always are alternatives, if s/he really that unhappy. Mentioning it, not threaterning.

Lots of kids don't have the faintest idea of how priviledged they are or of the efforts their parents are making to maintain the status quo.

The Romanian tradition says that "slapping your kid is a part of Heaven" - poor translation and not to be taken literally. But you've got my point, I am sure

I think you are saying that kids have no grasp on reality.

This is very true.

Their having no grasp of reality is normal. It's parents' job to make them aware... if they fail, they shall get sued
