Default Lifesupporters Racing

It's been a while since I've skinned anything ingame so I felt it was about time to resurrect Lifesupporters.com Racing. I spent much of the day today learning how to create vehicle skins for Colin McRae Dirt so there isn't much to show at present.

I'm still working on placement of sponsorship logos, so far this is what I have for the Citroen C4:

As much as I love playing racing games I have to admit they are far more sweet when you actually drive your own vehicle.

More to come...

really nice Duke. I wish I knew how to work the Forza 2 livery editor because I could try and do that same in that game. Is that Dirt on the PC?

Ya, this is my first attempt at skinning for Dirt. From what I've read though I can do exactly the same thing in Grid so I'll be trying that pretty soon as well.

I did find this tutorial for Forza 2 however it's not really importing graphics into the game but more on how to use the in game livery editor.

The forza 2 editor allows no imports and works on primative shapes and other easily moldable things but you can acheive some fantasitic work with it. Pretty hard to belive when you see the tools you have to come up with Forzamotorsport.net Forums - Official Fantansy Livery Contest Weekly Hall of Fame

I thought about picking both Dirt and Grid up at the weekend for PC. I need to by the wheel dongle for the 360 wheel then I could come and join you.

Man I'd love nothing more than to race with you buds.

I'll have to sort out my IL 2 install as well because I do miss flying. I dl'd so many mods that I'm really not sure whether or not I can actually join an online session with you guys due to version conflicts.

yeah no imports in forza 2 because of the potential copyright violations and people putting pr0n on their cars

There's no such thing as copyright violation when a user skins a vehicle it's only when the game ships with a brand that is not approved. If you've ever played Nascar Sim Racing, Colin McRae, rFactor, etc., you'll see exactly what I mean. I really doubt you'll ever see Good Year, Budweiser, Red Bull, OZ, PIAA, etc., come after a user for skinning a vehicle with one of their logos.

It really doesn't matter what people put on their cars if it's offline and even online racing does not show skins most of the time. I'm unfamiliar with Forza's online play but unless the server actually syncs your usermade skin with the server and the client then nobody will see your custom work anyway.

There are a number of communities that even host skinned files for dl, Blackhole Motorsports is one of the bigger ones and I think even Sim HQ does it as well (not sure though).

you can see what other people put on their cars online, and you can sell the designs for in game money, but yeah your probably right about the copyright stuff

Well that certainly explains why Forza doesn't have any mod tools. They prolly limited what you can do to keep server load light in the event of custom content.

That certainly sounds like a pretty cool system though. Is the game simulation based or is it more of an arcade racer?

Your cars are pretty. I am afraid I don't play games too much but I do appreciate good graphics. Wish I could do that. My daughter and her boyfriend can. I will have to get them to show me a few things.

Duke, I don't think mods will cause a problem on squad night. They will cause problems if you fly online in WOE which some of the guys do because mods are banned from there.

Theres 4000 layers on each of the 6 car areas. I think they did it that way because theres no way to import textures into an xbox 360. So far they only ban stuff thats racist or of questionable taste but people make up livery for real race cars in there without problem. I have several cars I've bought of people with real race livery. And yes, it does sync with teh server. Half the fun is racing with out people and looking at there livery.

its a sim game, its a car sim, meaning they tried to make the cars act and feel as real as possible, the racing aspect is less realistic, though still more then you get on most console games. though i do think the fact that im really good skews my viewpoint, lol.

Well my bl00dy game has given me no end of troubles and has required not one but two re-installs to date just to make some changes. I have no idea what's wrong with this game but for whatever reason it just seems to start crashing and no amount of replacing existing files from working backups seems to help.

Never have I been so close to tearing my hair out just to straighten up some sponsor decals.

Anyway, here are a few updated screens when I did manage to get it working for about 10 minutes:

Looking good.

Sadly, no rally games for me. My computer is practically a member of an extinct species.

I've been working on a BMW but still have some work to do to fix the UV Layers. Here's what I have so far:

Freak. I had sworn off racing games. But if you keep posting like that, I fear I will have to submit.

I hope to add another Porsche (like the one I was working on for rFactor), a Mitsubishi Evo and perhaps a GT1 class vehicle or perhaps a muscle car (not sure). I like racing games and really enjoy playing Dirt and Grid so this gives me an excuse to play a bit more often if I can drive my own vehicles.

I also started a racing move for Lifesupporters.com a long time ago and dropped the project due to poor design of my cars (my first attempts were really bad). I think this new design is quite racy looking so I think it will look pretty good on film.

BMW is now primarily complete, the only thing left to change are the window decals.

It's been a while since I've done much with vehicle skinning but I do have some updates of our latest Rally Car, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.
