Photo Gallery
I regret to inform you all that I'm having some difficulties with the photo gallery upload. It appears there's some major php and sql errors happening at present that I'm trying to work out. If I can't it may be a case of re-installing the software (hopefully not).
A few of you have sent pictures for upload and I don't want you to get the impression that I'm sitting on them. I'm no expert at php/mysql so what would take a smart person a few hours to figure out sometimes vexes me for a few weeks. Rest assured that I will have the whole thing up and running sometime early in January whether it be fixing it in it's current state or re-installing the whole program.
I'll keep you all up to date as the situation develops further.
BTW, staff members that have access to uploads are asked to refrain from adding new media to the gallery until a solution is found.
Thanks,
Ken

Would it be easier to get a site from a free service such as Webshots.com or something similar? Or each person with pics to share could get their own, they are very easy to navigate, and you could have one area where they could post the link to their own photos?

The whole idea of having a photo gallery hosted here is because I do have the extra database plus it's a perk for members to enjoy. Unfortunately it is a new program to me and it seems it's a bit buggy as well.
Offering an account through an outside resource such as webshots re-directs traffic away from this site which really isn't in my best interests if I want to grow the site. Not to mention a photo gallery can be interactive and accessable through all of my sites so it will be a working reality sooner or later.

Thanks Merika, I'll get it up and running in the next while. Sometimes it takes a while to get things working properly but eventually I do manage to get them working. Once I get most systems up and running properly then I'll be giving this site a facelift as well. That will be mid year 05 though at the earliest.

It's actually phpnuke but the newer, more secure version called cgnuke. How much do you actually know about php?

I've been doing it for three years.
Considering PHPnuke is open-source (I think) and worked on by a fleet of people more diligent and resourceful than I, it's possible I can't fix a thing if their release is buggy.
Why not take an existing photo script, a simple one, and integrate it by having it recognize the forum cookie?

Because the interface is nowhere near as intricate as the Coppermine Photo Gallery. I've looked around and CPG just had everything I was looking for. I actually believe there is a problem somewhere in the db but can't localize it. I will hunt down all the php errors that I'm getting and see if I can correct the problem by tweaking a few files.

I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is, I'm just waiting for Canaca to confirm my suspicions. A short while ago a major flaw was found in php that compromised any site using php language. A patch was released to help fix this problem but in doing so I believe it's altered some of the permission structure that is coded into the cgnuke language that runs the Photo Gallery.
I should have an update sometime in the near future. I apologize again for any inconvenience this may be causing.

Ya, I guess I'll get in touch with Canaca again this weekend and try and work it out. It sux that it was working so great until the patch and now the darn thing is fubar. It was a lot of work to put it in there and will be just as much if I have to scrap the db and start all over again.

Well one problem is that the Coppermine Photo Gallery that I use is no longer supported by phpnuke. What this means is I may have to switch over to another gallery (likely Gallery by Smartor). I could have chosen this gallery in the first place but it didn't give me some of the options I wanted. I'll have to clear the kidzone database and try to install this new photo gallery and beta testing it prior to linking to Lifesupporters and Hobby-Universe.
