More computer problems
Sometimes I can't see the off topic forum at all. Is this likely to be because of my computer problems (ad/spyware)?

You can't see the Off Topic Forum anymore because I've made it a forum that only registered members can see. I've actually hidden a number of forums that detract from the focus of the site and they are only viewable if you are a member and are logged into the site.
It may or may not stay this way, in fact, thanks for reminding me because I'll be posting a poll asking members/guests how they feel about the change.

I think I've deleted something vital. I scanned using Spyware Doctore and found an impressive 381 infections . Got rid of them all and then nothing worked. Restored a few, now works once in a blue moon. Heeeeeeeelp!

DAMMIT Meanon....pack that thing up and take it down to a computer repair shop!!!! Getting it fixed will be cheaper than purchasing a new one (in the UK anyways) before you mess it up and won't be able to get online!!!

The spyware programs do not update anything critical to your operating system. As star suggested, Windows Update is a good thing to look into. Have you also scanned for virus'?

Yes, all clear but the McAfee is a little old (1999/2000). probably should pay for a newer one, you think?
Cheers all

yes I think you should get a newer version for an anti-virus unless you can still update it without having to pay anything. I use Norton. I prefer it over any other anti-virus that I've tried.

Norton sux.
If you want good free virus protection then try AVG http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
Remember, even the best virus software in the world can't keep you protected if the virus definitions aren't up to date. McAffee virus shield is one of the few virus software applications that cannot be completely deleted from your computer without a re-formatt of the Hard Disk.

since when does norton suck? I always swore that was the best out there. I will download the one you suggest and try it out. You can't reload norton either without reformatting. Mine runs out in a couple days and I really don't feel like reformatting this computer just yet. It's just too much work but I do love the way it runs afterwards.
going to download that free anti-virus now. thanks!
