How do you connect to the internet?
With the recent connection speeds for this site I'm interested in knowing how you connect to the world wide web.

I use cable but I'm considering a change to DSL because of the sporatic high pings I experience on MP Game servers. My buddy actually pings lower to a local BF 1942 server than I do and he lives in Alberta.
I wish I could blame my ISP for the load times I experience here but my problems with this site range in high traffic and low traffic timeframes. Right now the site is loading allright but has loaded much better at times and it's 12:25 AM Monday morning, hardly peak traffic time on my cable hub.

Cable, but I too am looking for an alternative. Comcast hasn't been treating me too well lately, ping spikes are almost guaranteed during peak hours now. Also just dies without warning almost on a regular basis as well.
Not really a viable solution, all the DSL around here that costs the same is capped at around 750/128 which is pretty damn slow. I have to go up to about $120 US a month to get comparable speeds.

I thought DSL was supposed to be a bit lower than cable (very minor tho) but much more consistant at all times of day.

I also have cable with Comcast. I'm happy enough with the service but it sure is expensive. I had a friend hook up a router box since my two kids and myself all have our own puters. Sometimes when we are all on at the same time though....I get a slow down.
I also keep a backup dial up (about $100 a year) which comes in handy if Comcast is having probs.

Prolly a good idea.
I just hate dial up way too much to do that. I'd rather be internetless than listen to the obscure beeping of my fricken modem. I had dial up in the beginning and couldn't eat at the computer while surfing for fear of jamming a fork in my eye.

i click the blue e and it makes the intarweb work.
beyond that, i use SBC DSL, actually it's pretty good. i'm fairly close to the phone company, so it's actually better than the last cable conection i had. reliable too.

I understand that DSL is actually hubbed less than cable, but that may change as it's popularity increases. It's also marketed at speeds similar to cable but apparently it's a bit faster, likely because of less hubbing. From what Robustus tells me, the pings on game servers are much better and spike way less than cable connections.

I'm thinking about making the switch if I can get Telus to agree to two months free, free modem and free install like I had that one smack offer me on the phone a year ago.

install it yourself if you can. no sense in letting the knuckle-dragging tech into your house to install all the dumpy software that comes with it.

Ya I see your point. It was funny when shaw cable came to my apartment to install my cable modem. They actually used my splitter to split the signal from the wall to my TV and to my computer. The best part is that they charged me 6 bux a month for my own splitter. I couldn't figure it out why I kept seeing it on my bill, complained about it and got a few months free.
What a bunch of tards.
