Database info lost

Just so you all know, all information stored on the database before March 23, 2005 is still in tact. Unfortunately everything from then on is lost.

This translates to the following:

- lost membership since March 23
- losts posts in forums (several hundred)
- lost news topics
- lost web links, link requests and new links added
- loss of page views tallying up to approx. 15,000 hits unrecorded.
- loss of all site changes in this time period

Multiply this by three sites, Lifesupporters.com, Hobby-Universe and kidZone and you'll get the picture.

Again, you all have my sincerest apologies that this unfortunate event occurred. I'm presently in communication with Canaca to see if they can retrieve more info from the downed server.

Don't hold you're breath, I've lost all confidence (not that I had much to begin with) in Canaca.com.

I guess I've learned that backing up the db on my own is something I should get into the daily habit of.

Can't expect too much with Canaca that's for sure. Might not be a bad idea to do a back up maybe once every other day or so.

It's official:

Unfortunately I was correct in assuming Canaca couldn't get access to my database before the crash. This means that the sites are all rolled back to March 23, 2005 and any additional info on the database since that time has regrettably been lost. Please see this article for a complete description of how this crash affected this website.

Official response from Canaca.com Tech. Support, 4/2/2005:

We are sorry about this crash, the backup we had was 7 or 8 days old and the crashed hard drive was not retrievable at all, so we have no way to have access to the data in the last week period.

You can also make backups daily depending how soon you update your site and keep it on your local computer to prevent loss in occasions like this.

Becasue of this loss we will add 1 month of free service to your account so the next due date of your account from:
2005-07-08
Changed to:
2005-08-08

If you don't mind, can you get in touch with Apok, I don't have his e-mail or any other information, all of that got lost. I hope he doesn't think he was banned.

I don't have his email information either. I thought it had to be given when someone joined. I think it should be a headline somewhere on here that al posts were lost from such and such date till now....and any members who registered during that time should reregister. The information is on here....but it takes alot of reading to find it.
