Climbers Killed in Avalanche

9 climbers killed in avalanche -- chicagotribune.com

At least nine climbers were reported dead on K2, the world's second highest mountain....

----------------------------------

I guess I just don't much understand why people risk their lives this way.

I think cheating death is the ultimate high for some folks. It can also be a question of testing ones endurance.

I do know that being competitive myself I tend to take things as far as I can to learn of my limits given the task at hand; I don't believe these people to be any different.
