Three British scientists shocked the world when they revealed on May 16th, 1985 - 25 years ago - that aerosol chemicals, among other factors, had torn a hole in the ozone layer over the South Pole. The ozone layer, which protects life on Earth from damaging solar radiation, became an overnight sensation. And the hole in the ozone layer became the poster-child for mankind's impact on the planet.
Today, the ozone hole - actually a region of thinned ozone, not actually a pure hole - doesn't make headlines like it used to. The size of the hole has stabilized, thanks to decades of aerosol-banning legislation. But, scientists warn, some danger still remains.

I think the Ozone layer is still very much a hot topic but I think its fallen under more of a blanket of Earth issues such as deforestation, climate change, fossil fuel dependency, recycling, alternative energy sources, etc.
What I've never understood though is if there was ever a thinning of the ozone layer, why couldn't man just replace it with ozone? There are a number of things man made that produce ozone such as uv reactors, even the human body creates ozone.
Why couldn't they just rig something up on top of a jet and start spraying ozone? Clearly I'm no scientist because the thinning ozone has never really made any sense to me?

I guess it would also be an issue of "getting it there". In principle, it is not hard to come up with a system to catch CO2 (carbondioxide), but the sheer quantities involved make it anything but straightforward.

I had considered this but if you think of the sheer volume of aerisols that are apparently largely responsible for the hole, why can't the same be done over many years to referse the effects?

I think it is complicated because of the instability of ozone (O3); it tends to form O2 (oxygen), unless circumstances are right; chemical equilibrium is heavily skewed towards O2, if memory serves (last time I studied it, I was in high school).
