New Seven Wonders...

Seven New Wonders

Do you know what they are before checking the site? Do you know the Seven Wonders of the ancient world? How many still exist?

Re: New Seven Wonders...

I'm pretty sure that only one or two of the original exist today. Not sure I agree with the 7 new ones. Some are 'wonders' no doubt, others are not.

I'm with Mondo on this. I do think the Great Wall needs to be there regardless because it is amazing but I'd also love to see Stonehenge on the list.

Re: New Seven Wonders...

Why couldn't they have made it 14 wonders of the world and not removed the original 7?

...because they had to justify the resources put into creating this study I guess.

Re: New Seven Wonders...

You actually had to SMS (text) to vote, IIRC.

Only the Pyramids are standing. The rest of them have been destroyed, by earthquakes (Collosos, Lighthouse of Pharos), looted or a conjecture of both.

The original list was based on Greek thought & scholarship. They were unlikely to have known of Stonehenge or the Great Wall.

Christ Redeemer, Colloseum and Taj Mahal would definitely not made it on my list.

You know what, ignore the '7' wonders. Check out the UN's world heritage site list. Its a better guide to human engineering thats being saved for the future.

The UN world heritage sites:
World Heritage Centre - World Heritage List

I wish there was some sort of list on that site to mark of ones you've visited!
