Default new toys....

Well my sister just realized that she missed my birthday (back in Feb> doh)

so she called me today and asked me what I wanted heh

I told her that I wanted a new motherboard, So she ordered a new Gigabyte board for me, one that I picked out.... it's a GA-P35-S3G from newegg.

Now all I have to do is purchase a Core2duo and I'll be all set =)

Much like any geek, I am a bit excited heh....

Doh indeed. These things happen. I had to remind my gf of her sister and her mother's birthday recently.

I take it you are not going to use it to calculate millions of decimals of e / pi. So what are you going to use it for?

I swear that Gigabyte has the best layed out Mobo's of any manufacturer hands down. The only thing I'm not crazy about is their warranty coverage as they only offer 12 mos. as compared with Asus or Intel that offer 36.

You will love the new core duo (E6850, higher?), it makes multi-tasking a breeze and just runs cooler and far more stable than anything else on the market IMHO. I would suggest though that you do go overkill on cooling because it won't be long before your overclocking

Congrats!

I am undecided on the exact processor. For my needs practically any C2D will be faster than what I have (with a quick FSB bump). With my current situation, I'll prolly have to go sub-$100 for it, which leaves me with the E2000 line of processors. I would like to get a E4000 series but it wont be in the cards (more than likely). There are some very impressive results with OC'd E2000 CPUs

I don't care about the exact warranty really, any motherboard I've had, once it makes it past 6 months it lasts forever. I have a socket A gigabyte board that is running just fine at my neighbors house it's more than 7 years old and it only sat in my closet for a year before he brought it back to life. In fact I have many motherboards that still work perfectly regardless of age. I got the Gigabyte because the P35 line from them overclock pretty well.

Vautrin, this will be my personal computer. My AMD dual core is going to replace my single core Athlon64 server.
