I, for one, am remiss at using the wonderful chatbox to its full potential. What can we do to liven it up? Maybe a Chat Party to discuss this issue???.....
I most always check to see who is on and should be saying a 'hello' but I always wonder if everyone does check the chatbox when they are on, to be greeted with a 'hello' or 'what have you', etc.

Reason: Needed to add more to the suggestion
Just wanted to add that TKDLady is very loyal to the Chatbox, and deserves Kudos for it!

TKDLady is the chatbox master, if it weren't for her I don't think it would ever get used.
I think the reason you're not seeing it used as much as before is because people aren't lingering on site as much as they used to. Summertime sees everyone with more time to sit idly around and cruise the forums and you can usually notice this by users online.
We also lost a few regular members as some thought the management here too stringent (which couldn't be further from the truth) and decided to find forum discussion elsewhere. While we try to maintain an amiable forum atmosphere we will not allow anarchy and some members just don't appreciate it when a line is drawn between what can and can't be done.
We have seen however a nice influx of new membership here so hopefully they see this place for what it is meant to be, a warm, caring and supportive environment where fun can be had but not at the expense of others. Hopefully we can gain the confidence of the new membership and show them what life is like as part of an online family.
...do that and the chatbox will spring to life once again.

I just want to say how Surprised and quite excited about seeing the Chatbox first thing when I logged on! I like it very, very much up top and feel that maybe there would be more action leaving it there! Just a thought; makes me happy!
Your thoughts?

Personally, I hate sites that have the chatbox everywhere, especially at the top of the forums. Not only do I find it bothersome aesthetically I don't like the idea of forcing users to scroll past it.
I like having a chatbox that compliments the forums, not the other way around.
Of course this is all just IMHO.

I guess I'm just plain nosy and lazy besides. I like to read what others have said there, and scrolling to the bottom is just too much of a trial for me...I like things nice and easy!
It never hurts to ask....

You can always open up a full page chatbox in a new tab if you wish:
It was thought in the beginning that putting too much emphasis on a chatbox could have a negative impact on forum content. User input at the time pointed to a possibility of lack of forum content due to the ease of simply posting in the chatbox.
I don't know if this is true or not but I did consider it prior to installing a chatbox in the first place. My reasons for the current layout are mostly aesthetic but there are other reasons as well such as content "below the fold" (indicates content that a user must scroll to see), site speed, bandwidth usage, usability, and SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Thanks for always taking the time to answer my many questions! I sure appreciate it, and it makes total sense to me!

I agree with Duke. It is better, in general for the chatbox to be where it used to be. With a chat party coming up, it does not hurt to put it first - after all the more the merrier.
