But at least skiing takes skill and if there is an obstacle type course.... can be a great competitive sport...unlike disc throwing (or shot puck...whatever they call that thing).

I've gone skiing and I wasn't trying to imply it's not a fun sport. I was being my usual goofy self. Sorry if I offended anyone that most certainly wasn't my intention.

I was not offended at all. Merely don't see the point of timing a fun experience. If it is fun, you want to take your time to enjoy the experience, not rush down, and hope you don't break your neck.

See I like skiing. But I don't like the moguls and stuff. I try to go as fast as possible. Something about just going fast, either in a car, seadoo, skidoo, skiing....the feeling is just awesome. Even if it means I will probably wipe out and get hurt, I still do it. The rush is awesome. I still need to go skydiving.
As for useless sports?
Badminton....go play volleyball instead.
Curling...Gah, my first girlfriend was a national curler for Canada. She was quite good, but I still hated watching it. I think the reason that curling fans can drink so much, is because there is nothing to do but drink while watching.

Merika, I'm surprised at you, how can you say?
Javelin throwing is an ancient, honorable sport. Besides what if you're running naked through the jungle and a lion pops out at you? You'd wish you had a javelin and knew how to use it.
Horse racing is the sport I don't get. You stand in line to get in, you stand in line to bet, you stand in line to get a drink, then you wait 15 minutes for the race, which last 60 seconds and then you repeat the process until you die of boredom or get extremely inebriated.

Just like voting in the Irish parliament, or so I heard. Vote, drink, vote, drink, vote, drink, vote, drink, drink drink, pass out.

Assuming you ski this way which I, nor my friend do. For us there is a level of exploration because we rarely take the same root twice, unless it's extemely fun. We go off the runs, between the trees, under the lifts, sometimes we just sit there amongst all the beautiful powder and talk, have a beer, etc. It really is one of my favorite things to do in this world and I'm not a great skiier, I just enjoy the fresh air, crisp air, and good memories made with my friends.
