Is there a time.......
When a song hits you wrong or the sun shines just so......that it reminds you of someone in your past? And just for a moment or two.....meloncholy sets in and it still stings?

It seems like I reflect on my past a lot, especially the older I get. It can be triggered by viturally anything from music to movies to food.

I think everyone feels this at times. Some welcome the memories, others try and avoid them. What is it that stings, Merika? The memory of hurt or the melancholy of missing someone? When I miss people from my past sometimes it's them, the actual person, but sometimes it's the way I felt when I was with them - the love or the friendship.

Hearing a special song will bring a blast from the past back to me. Sometimes it is someone I do miss, sometimes it's a happy memory, a sad one.
My sis in law sent me the song "sad eyes" yesterday and i listened to it. It reminded me of someone i broke up with back then and brought back all the sadness feelings again. Isn't it weird how just a song can do that?

You are right Star....songs really do that. I heard someone way once that songs draw a picture in your heart.....which your brain picks up just as clear as if you looked at a picture.
Meanon, I don't know if I was having such a feeling at the time I made the post. I do from time to time though and usually ignore it....rather than trying to figure it out. Some things are better avoided....until they go away all together.

Re: Is there a time.......
I know when I hear " When Im with you, by Sherriff " it still tugs at my heart strings. If always skip to the next station. That song was a an x girlfriends and my song when I was 18, Im now 35. So yeah, music has a way of sending you back in time, good or bad.
I am on this site for a reason obviously, my wife of 17yr's just left me 2 days ago. I know, our wedding song " Love Song, by Tesla " will never be played again in my house, too painful.

For me a certain song can mean the difference between a good day and a bad day.
My bf and I had a special song. It was actually the first song that we ever slow danced to and it was 8 years ago at my sisters wedding. Up until a few weeks ago it brought back nothing but good memories! But now, I can't even bring myself to hit the play button on the song. The funny thing is though, I have not heard this song on the radio or in a shopping mall in ages, and it seems that it is being played everywhere I go now

Re: Is there a time.......
It seems like the older you get the more songs will remind you of both good times and bad times or past relationships.
I've been divorced from my 1st wife for over 32 years and there are still certain songs that remind me of the wonderful times we had together and the horrible time we endured when we split.
I no longer have bad days because of anything I hear but never the less from time to time the memories keep popping up.

Yup, this happens to me all the time. Of all the senses though it's smell that hits me the strongest. If I smell a perfume that I used to wear at a certain time or smell something outside or something cooking that reminds me of a certain time or a certain person it really hits home and sends me back.

I've had this happen too. It makes me sad, yet happy not to be with them anymore. I just wish things could have worked out.

Re: Is there a time.......
I'll never forget, many years ago, my husband was trading in our wonderful Pontiac Parisienne for a what I thought (and still do) was a crappy truck. I'll never forget as I was supposed to be getting out of the car the song "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me" by the Bellamy Brothers was playing. I just stayed there and cried.
The Plus side is the truck did have a Camper, and we wanted to be more high-class than just use a tent....but I'm pouting again at the memory, I never liked that useless piece of crap.

I'm sorry Luba. I feel the same way about a car I was forced to give up. I still miss that car, I loved it so much I know how you feel.
