When going through life searching for some religious truth.....how did you end up with the one you held on to?

What chain of events got you to the point of 'believing'?

I know that I havent lived a very long life..Im only 15...but i think when it comes down to it I personally have chosen this religion because there are so many benefits for me...not trying to sound greedy....I have someone(Jesus) to talk to when I fell like I dont know what to do, I have a set of beliefs that I can rely on and certian guide lines

and in the Christian religion God is EVERYWHERE and hears/Sees EVERYTHING and I feel like i have a more personal realationship with God/Jesus and he is someone that i can talk to about ANYTHING.

I think that i have always kind of known in my heart that God was there...but I think I really started to begin my real relationship with him Last school year when i start to go to The Assemblies of God Church and when we started to praise I could just feel him there. I knew that he had a plan for me and a reason for Everything...that's when I think that I really started believing in God. :<0>:

I didn't believe much as a child. When I was 16 I took some yoga classes I thought were cool. Meditation and relaxation were fine, but the people there were trying to sway people into all types of Sutras.

I almost got sucked in. My parents were on the watch and didn't like how I was changing.

After that, I met this boy - went out with him for like... a couple of weeks (I was a bit spoiled). He was a true Christian. I learnt a lot from him, from coming back to God to actually thinking about myself, my actions, you know, what teenagers do.

I'm an Orthodox and that is one strict religion. I don't trust the Orthodox church and most of the experiences I had with priests were enough to make me stay away.

YEt I do believe in God and somewhere in the back of my head (although a bit quitter this year) was this little voice questioning me, all my actions...

If I feel like praying I go into a church and pray. This does not happen when I'm necessarily very happy or very sad. IT's based on how I feel inside. I don't go to church on Sundays and I miss most of the important religious services. It's an impulse driving me there and when I do listen to it, I live the most incredible feeling that only a true believer can have when feeling s/he is a son of God.

To tell you my philosophy of life: some people call it karma, other call it God. What I believe is that when someone intentionally harms you, there's no point in fighting back or in being mean. The worst wounds are the ones we inflict upon ourselves. So I do not see my role in specifically making this easier or harderon someone. Life takes care of everything.

I don't know what other religions teach...but in the Bible God says "Vengeance is mine." That's hard to live by though. It's hard not to fight back or be mean, as you said, when you feel justified in doing so.

I've often told Jesus I don't mind waiting till Judgement Day for some people to get what they deserve.....but can I PLEASE WATCH! LOL!

I think if yor a christian like me a good guidline would be what would jesus do

in a hard situation this will always almost guide you to the right thing ......

He's probably rolling his eyes given the behaviour of the Christian faith over the last 1000 years and what they did in his name and the name of god.

I suspect you are probably correct Mondo. I think that's why it makes it even MORE important that each person who professes Christianity to actually live up to what GOD says...instead of OUR interpretation of it.

Thats not the worst of it, personal interpretation is bad but taking the bits you do like and ignoring the bits you don't is worse. If people followed the bible and Koran as gospel then we wouldn't be in this situation we are now

It's easier said than done though. It's hard enough to keep a personal life straight.....much less if you throw in politics and power.

Its not though. Living by the ten commandments is easy, its just people choose not to take the bits that interfier with there own personal agenda.

I think the message here is everyone is different. I have a hard time thinking of anything else due to my work obligations and they literally control my life at the moment.

I hear what you're saying mondo and commend you for it, but it's not a recipe that everyone can follow IMO. Factor in work, children, money problems, family problems, etc., and then take a look at your day. You drop into bed nightly with worries on your mind and awake the next day with these thoughts in your head. This is not something that happens because you had a bad day, this is a major lifestyle switch that may run a persons day for many years to come. I don't believe that can be chalked up to personal agenda.
