What makes you pray?
I read Isis's thread and was thiking of one of her mottos, those about praiers , quizz tests and schools.
What makes you pray, what makes you go to church? What are you seeking when doing that? And... when do you pray?

I consider Jesus my closest friend. If I didn't have him to talk to...I'd just be lonely and sad.

I don't consider you a lonely sad person. You have lots of friends and family who care about you and love you. You just haven't met your soulmate yet.

I don't know that I pray 'for' anything......I just talk to Him about everything that's going on and ask Him to intervene if I'm totally screwing something up. (And usually I am!) LOL!

for the past 3 years i've prayed for my daughter. For God to take her by the hand and guide her to the right path.
I don't pray very much and i never do go to church. I don't like church and i don't feel like church is the only place that god hears me. God hears me wherever I am and while i'm doing whatever it is that i'm doing.

star, you're amazing. I was about to ask if you go to church when you want to pray.
I sometimes make menthal notes about things. Just like Faye, I pray when I'm very happy (sharing joy and thanking Jesus for the moment).
Funny think, Merika, I at times talk to God or think of Mary. Never Jesus .
When I pray... I usually have a very special state of mind. I think of myself as a sinner and it takes even more repention to be able to pray. It's stupid, but it's true.
I used to be a bit more intouch with my "inner self" a few years ago. I've forgotten how to do that. I wish I could come back to that .
Do you think that praying has anything to do with forgiving yourself?

I don't care if I'm disappointed with me.....I just don't want HIM disappointed with me.
As far as God and Jesus.....I'm not sure that I separate the two. I have a God....His name is Jesus. Other people have their own names for theirs. I don't judge on if I think it's the same God or not.
Here is the way I see things.....I'm not suggesting it's right for everyone:
I also have a tendency to want quick answers or solutions from God .... and then neglect to check His Word to find out if there is a root answer I'm either not aware of or am avoiding.
A great many problems I've brought about myself due to ignoring His guidance. Other problems just come with life and if He can't change the situation due to over riding someone's will.....He can at least get me thru it and help me find the good to move on with.

I hope you don't mind my asking, because I think it's a really interesting pov: do you not see Jesus as son of God who died to wash out sins?
I guess I've seen Richard Chamberlain too may times in that movie
About forgiving yourself: to me, being able to ask for forgiveness from him means accepting that you're wrong and in a way, accepting your self. By asking him to forgive me, I think that subconsciently I ask myself to do that...
Don't know if I'm making any sense here.
About wanting quick answers... sometimes just getting through the day in a great achievement also (I comute, I live 2 hours away from my school, which makes it 4 hours on the road, changing trains, buses... we have a 2 hours break and usually 8 hours of courses a day... I'm not even counting )
