Default Civil rights attacking religous groups

Is it just me or is this getting out of hand? I know it is a touchy subject, but as the son of a pastor I feel I have the right to discuss it. Im not that religous, but Im sick of seeing those who are getting attacked for their beliefs. Are they really bothering anyone?

I TOTALLY agree zman! I don't find it's the various religions attacking each other either.....it's the ones who don't respect other people's right to believe in ANYTHING who are the trouble makers here.

Truthfully, in the end, I think it will make people stronger and more protective of their convictions. I don't know if this is happening in the UK...but in the USA people who don't even attend chuch are getting upset over the onslaught!

I don't know why everyone just won't leave everyone else alone. I don't care if someone burns candles, runs around their house in a Hallelujah chorus or plants crosses all in their yard.....what's the big deal? I believe everyone should be able to persue whatever makes them feel better.

This is the ultimate question. I dont see it getting any better though, this is what bothers me the most. It seems that people gave up trying to get accepted by everyone, and just started demanding that everyone be the same as themselves.

WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT!!!

And in this country I have the freedom to pursue whatever I wish to pursue. I think this is becoming a very difficult message to get accross.

I think it's a lot easier to point a finger in any direction but yourself. The problem for someone like me who isn't really religious or have any strong views on the topic is it's impossible to have any faith in a finger pointer. Shut up, look inward and pull the weeds in your own yard.

This is why I mostly refuse to vote and have little or no political standpoint. I will not vote for the "lesser of two evils". I WILL vote for someone I like but have yet to see that over the past 5 or 6 years.

I may have taken what you said wrong, but personally I don't see anything wrong with people confronting a religion about their beliefs.
Now if you meant such as someone calling someone a "raghead" or whatnot becuase of their religion, that's just wrong.

zman, were you talking about things like the ACLU having a fit because there is a picture of the ten commandments in a court?

Out of respect to this not being a political forum I won't go into one of my political BLOGS but I think there is a BIG difference between everyone having the freedom of following their own convictions and everyone having to hide what they believe so they don't 'offend' someone else.

I agree with random skater in that I don't care if someone wears a towel on their head ....and they shouldn't care if I wear a cross or the Star of David. Each should make their own choices and live accordingly.

That would be a perfect world though....and I daresay we don't live in such a world.

As for the ACLU....they were once a great organization which has long outlived their usefullness in the quest of wiping out western religion for some retarded reason known only unto themselves.

In example:

Los Angeles was threatened to be sued by the ACLU if they did not remove the cross from the city symbol.

I think that is rediculous.

If I moved to China or India or Africa or Russia....I wouldn't EXPECT or WANT them to remove the religion icons of their culture because it is part of the landscape of things.

That's they way I see crosses and Christian/Catholic/Jewish icons in the United States.

I think what the ACLU does is stupid and a waste of time. It also is causing an uneccesary division. ACLUseless!

If you guys want it, I can set up a political forum but I warn you, much of the time it turns into political debate and I won't have members turning on each other as I see on any other forum with a political topic.

If you like, I can set up a poll and you can vote on whether or not a political forum is needed. It will be heavily moderated though.

As I posted.....I totally agree with you. I know for a fact there are millions more in the USA who would agree with you. The ACLU is tough to combat though because they way they are set up on a state by state basis you can't get a good handle on their financial supporters and chose where you purchase based on what organizations donate funds to them.

One main supporter, get THIS, was people who worked in Civil service type jobs (police, firefighters, govenment offices, etc) who had money taken out of their paychecks and didn't know it was going to that particular 'charity'.

Last year alone....that was in the area of $400,000 dollars! The ACLU has turned down this source now because they are against the Patriot Act (which I too question). ANYWAY....I thought you might find that interesting.

It's not just the coming against Christianity that annoys me. I don't think anyone has a right to tell anyone else what to believe or how to live....regardless of the issue at hand. I don't have guns in my house....but I don't care if someone else does. I'm not gay...but I don't care if someone else is. I'm anti abortion....FOR ME...but I don't feel it's my call for someone else's life. These shouldn't be political issues. You can't legislate a person's personal choice of morality.

Again, I just think everyone should leave everyone else alone and focus on the real political issues at hand....such as foreign policy and the economy.
