Default Your teens significant other and you

From the front page:

It's not bad enough that as teenagers and young adults, parents had to endure hardship with the loved ones that became ex-loved ones for a number of reasons. It is tough but it is a part of what makes us who we are today. Just when you thought you no longer had to endure the pain in breakup, your son or daughter brings home their other half.

Today's Parent recognizes the challenges that parents may face when trying to both welcome the new member of the family and relate with him/her and the relationship in general. The article is broken up into 3 topics:

- How close should you get to your teen's boyfriend or girlfriend?
- Could it be love?
- Dealing with the breakup

It's a good article and a must read for any parent who's teen is dating or at the age where dating starts.

I was quite the opposite, it wasn't rare for me to bring a girl home when I was living with my parents, they were even allowed to sleep in my bedroom. My dad never said anything because he knew that if I couldn't have them over at my house, I'd be messing around somewhere else and they wouldn't know about it.

Isis' new boyfriend, which is why she has NO TIME to post lately, seems like a very nice young man and I have even invited him to dinner before he goes off to Iraq as a young Marine. Even if they broke up.....I would still write him and support him.

I wish that Krystal would eventually find herself a nice guy as a boyfriend. I hope and pray it won't be like the past ones she's had; a bunch of low life scum bags. I'll welcome any guy that's decent.

Kassandra (who is almost 13) has had a little boyfriend for the past 7 weeks. Hubby doesn't know about it or he'd flip his lid! It's harmless. It's so cute. He calls her everyday and they talk on the phone for hours. He took her to the movies (and paid for it!) 2 weeks ago. They meet at the monthly YMCA dances and hang out at the mall with friends. He's a nice boy, a good boy too!

Flipping out is exaclty the wrong thing to do and there is no better way to alienate your teen IMHO.

If Isis picked her friends as well as she picked her boyfriends.....we would have less problems. She has a couple of nicer girlfriends.....but the rest look like they should be standing under a red street lamp as sailor fodder.

Well Merika, skin is in. I feel like an old fuddy duddy when I see what young girls wear these days. It actually makes me cringes sometimes.

What girls are wearing these days I would've never thought of wearing, ever!

I had that problem with Krystal. She was looking like a hooker before and while she was pregnant for god sake! It was embarrassing!! And the more I nagged her about it, the more she wore those hooker clothes (duh! I should've known better).

She's getting better now. She wears track pants mostly but she still likes to weat her belly shirts and low riders (I could kill britney spears for starting that trend!). I could never wear pants that low! The thought of my ass peeking out when I bend over to grab something makes me shiver! YIKES!! I can't wait until the trend changes. Hopefully the next one will have some class?!? 8O

I find it odd in a society where females have been ranting and raving for men to see them as something beyond sex items....they are going out of their way to look like hookers.

There is one type of attire acceptable in a party or bar atmosphere....however, this looks silly in the grocery store.

If a female things she can bend over to grab a can of corn with her thong strap showing isn't going to make a guy think of sex.....she's dumber than dirt.

To be honest the whole thong up to my armpits and pants around my knees look just doesn't do it for me.

Default Just a thought

I'm not a parent so I don't have much room for comment but I saw an ad a few months ago that I think applies. The slogan was Being Sexy Doesn't Mean You Have To Have Sex.

I think this is the way I will approach dating w/my kids. Look at Jessica Simpson- very sexy but she remained a virgin til her wedding nt (I don't care if it is true- I applaud her for her public values and providing a good role model) Even good ole Brittney waited til she was older to advance her physical relationships (Even Justin stands by this) I think it's the actions more than the appearance that should be regulated.

Likewise I want to raise all my boys to treat EVERY female like the queen they are. Love and respect every girl and woman. I hate that so much attention is pointed at young female sexuality while males are virtually ignored. The "protect yourself" mentality that is the basis of most young male relationship guidelines is not helping any youth relationship unless you truly limit your expectations to lack of pregnancy or STD's.
