Default Switched At Birth

There have been several stories through the years dealing with babies who were accidentally switched at birth....ending up with the wrong family.
Years later, once discovered, the courts and parents have made a variety of choices as to how to handle it.

If you found out this had happened to you.....would you want to know and how would you deal with it?

If you found out this happened with one of your children.....would you want to know and how would you deal with it?

Well...that would make sense and really be the only fair solution. However, if you are a Mom of a child for a longer period of time.....that's easier said than done.

If it had happened with any of my children....I just wouldn't want to know. It would be too excrutiating to deal with.

I remember the two girls some years back who were switched. One of the girls died from some illness....that's when the parents found out. They found their REAL daughter, who had been raised by her Dad and was 9 years old, who was very happy. The courts sent her to the other family to live. I thought that was TERRIBLE!

The two boys, a couple of years ago, who this happened to had families who followed your idea. It did seem to work the best. The boys are now friends.

you know something, I don't understand how a mother doesn't know her own child. One should know the baby's features. I did! Nobody could've switched my kids at birth or even Erika for that matter. I knew exactly what they looked like. So how does that happen? 8O

If it did, I'd be devistated. How would you deal with that? I really don;t know. here you've raised a child you think is yours and loved. how would you be able to give that child up? I would deffinately want to know my child. This is a tough question.

did you ever see Deep end of the ocean w/Michelle Pfeifer? THAT was a hard choice

Star- I would think the babies would have to have similar features to be confused in the 1st place

I would still know. I gave birth the natural way though so i seen my babies when they were fresh out of the oven.

I suppose if a mom had a c-section and couldn't see her child until that night then it could be possible. It was like that with krystal. she was all groggy through the c-section and didn't know what her baby looked like until they allowed her to go see her that night. erika was born in the morning.

it's like that here too. babies stay with mom in the rooms. they kick you out now in 2 days tops.

All the stories I've read about are one of the reasons why babies are immediately wrist tagged. These happened years ago when many Moms were asleep or drugged out during child birth and also stayed in the hospital for close to a week. You get 25-30 babies in a hospital nursery and one careless nurse........

I wonder how many times it happened and no one found out. They just thought they had some odd looking kid who didn't match the rest of the family. HAHA!

You are right Star....it's a mind boggling question expecially if you think if your own kids and how you would feel to find out something like that.

I honestly don't know how I would feel or react to that. It would be devestating no doubt but I don't know what I would do. What a mess that would be for both families involved.
