I do believe in spankings if all else fails. I tapped my kids on the hand and said "no touch" at the same time to teach them not to touch everything. It worked for me. I also would spank their bottoms if they kept doing something they knew was wrong and the other punishments wouldn't work. I don't however believe that pants should be brought down for spankings or anything like a wooded spoon or belt should be used. I have a sister in law who uses a wooden spoon and it makes my blood boil. IMO, that's abuse, not spanking.
My kids don't hit others so I don't think that the spankings they got taught them hitting is OK. I have a nephew who was never spanked (and I think he needs to be once in awhile) and he's hitting kids at school all the time. I think the kids learn in the way the spankings are done. My kids always knew that they were getting a spanking and why. Afterwards, I'd hug them tight and talk to them some more about why they got the spanking and how they can learn from it. It did work for me but not all kids are the same. Not all will react the same where spankings are concerned.
