Default Sibling Rivalry

If you only have one child and no sisters or brothers.....you have no idea how nasty this can get.

If there is ONE THING which is a major problem in our home....it's the constant arguing of my kids between themselves. They are just MEAN to each other sometimes.

Some articles say it's healthy and normal. I'm not sure. I know it should come with a whole bottle of Prozac! It drives me insane!!!!!

My Mom said she wished this on my brother and I....so we would know how aggravating this was on her as a parent. My brother only had one child. I have 'Heckle and Jeckle'....LOL!

Anyone else ever deal with this?

My brother is 3 years younger than me and I tormented him beyond belief.

I gave my brother a really hard time, it came back to haunt me as he got older, I'm so glad we've worked through that now.

Sibling Rivalry is a normal thing. My kids fight like cat and dog sometimes and it is very aggravating for me to have to listen to it. Mom, she did this to me, mom, she stole my makeup, and it goes on and on... very annoying but it is normal.

I grew up being the oldest child in my family. I was the only girl and had 2 younger brothers (the 3rd brother was born when i was 17 sooo. no sibling rivalry there!) and we faught and argued like cat and dog. we'd have physical fights. it was nasty!

so, i'd say it's pretty normal. You grow up and eventually that all stops and you love eachother and gain some respect at some point for one another.

I can't believe it's NORMAL! I always thought it signified some major DYSFUNCTION! LMAO!

All I know is that it drives me insane. Also, how can constant bickering within your home actually prepare you to be a good mate to someone?

there's healthy bickering and then there's abusive bickering. I always interfere with the kids when there are name calling or hitting. If nothing like that is happening, i let them work it out.

Working out arguments does prepare you for a real relationship. Everyone argues, bickers and gets angry at some point or another. it keeps us all sane. let's it all out instead of bottling it up inside.

it does drive me batty too!!!

Maybe I misused the word 'bicker'. Mine call each other names which sounds like something right off the Navy base and pops each other back and forth. They would come to serious blows....but neither is sure which one would win! LOL!

Last year, they were sitting on the couch and my son was eating a piece of cake. My daughter kept touching it. My son was acting like he was going to stab her with a fork.....she raised her leg....and sure enough the fork went in!

I got home from work about 5 minutes after the incident. My daughter was puking in the garbage can with the fork still in her leg. My son was crying and didn't eat for a couple of days. After that....the hitting and popping each other subsided for awhile.

OUCH! that's gotta hurt! I hope it didn't leave a scar on her leg. I'd say that was extreme sibbling rivalry. 8O

As long as theres siblings, there will always be rivalry. It's just human nature to want as much attention as possilbe. Some of us go to extremes to get it but if it's the only way to get attention then we continue to use it.

Oh yeah...it left a couple of pin point looking scars!

I guess the good point is that her brother didn't enjoy the victory. He felt HORRIBLE to the point of not being able to eat. It really upset him that it happened.

So.....just MAYBE.....it was a good experience for him.
