Lately I have read alot about this new cord banking here's a link

But it's darn expensive.

Has anyone else looked in to this or done it?

I did look into it for Erika. They didn't offer that when I had my kids. But it is way too expensive so I didn't do it. It would be a good thing to do if you can afford it. A baby is such a huge expence to begin with, adding the cord expense wasn't even a consideration for us. Way too expensive.

I wonder how many people actually store the cord?

Since I am in the insurance industry I am a HUGE advicote of " Better safe than sorry" but if it was so bennificial to the next generation I wonder why the price isn't regulated.

The choices are to put it in a private bank or a public bank, if the cord is in a public bank others can use it and have acess to it, that to me defeats the purpose of saving the thing...

i don't think I will do it either but I would really like to it's 2k plus a yearly storage and maint fee.

If I were to have done that, I wouldn't of chosen the public one either. Why should I pay to store my baby's cord just so somebody else can use it? makes no sense. I think it was a little more money then that here.

The way i see it is that we all survived without our cords being saved so the chances of really needing it in the future are pretty slim.

The problem is that you never know... Noah had to have a blood transfusion it was scarry lucky for me the news spread like wildfire and everyone I had ever meet was in the hospital giving blood.

If I wasn't in so much distress that would have been a funny day, there we're TONS AND TONS of strippers, Bouncers, My club customers, mixed with my faimly, neighbors, and people from my parents church.. I guess at the time nobody judged eachother.

But there would have been no price to having a back up system like the cord.

you dont need to save cords, the main "advantage" wont be realized for years with stem cell research and stem cells can be harvested off the body anyway.

I agree DA....I'm not sure the advantages of 'stem cells' have really been determined....other than in the testing stages.
