Default Breastfed or Bottlefed?

Were (is) your baby breastfed or bottlefed? If bottlefed, which formula did you use? Did you use ready mix liquid, concentrated liquid or powder?

I never breastfed my babies. I chose to bottle feed. My kids didn't take to milk-based formulas so I had to use soy which was more expensive. Erika is also bottlefed. I knew Krystal wouldn't be responsible enough to continu with breastfeeding so we didn't start it. I fed Erika Enfalac regular but since changed to Parent's Choice from Wallmart for way cheaper. It's the same formula, she didn't notice any different. I always used to concentrated liquid. I tried the powder and Erika hated it. So, concentraded liquid it is.

When I had my babies, it was common to start them on rice cerial at 1 or 2 months old. Mine started at 1 month. Now they say not to start that until they're at least 4 months. Things sure have changed a lot since I've had my own babies.

I breast feed Noah but when I wasn't around he took forumla ( I wouldn't pump like a cow!) He used Carnation Good Start I was lucky that he liked that because it was the most inexpensive brand.

I will breast feed again with my baby, I might think about pumping this time if I have time to take a lactation class, but I am doing it for pure selfish reasons.... It helps lose weight.

I didn't know that breastfeeding helps to lose weight. That's a plus!

I chose not to breast feed my babies because of the pumping thing. I found it easier to just bottle feed. Lokking back though, I wish I would of at least tried it. Oh well, nothing I can do about that now.

I went to the nestle website and registered. I got a free can of good start powder in the mail! I might try to use that when she's close to being 1 or so.

Here's a site where if you register, they give you free samples:

Here's the nestle site where they'll send you a free can of nestle good start powder:

I used to use luvs then switched to huggies for my babies. They don't sell luvs here anymore for some reason?

I use either pampers or huggies. I find them both very good diapers. Whater is the cheapest at the time is what I use. I'll never use those no name brand ones. I don't like the way they feel. My sis-in-law uses those ones. I'd rather pay the extra couple of bucks for a nice soft diaper like huggies.

Cheap diapers usually bring diaper rashes because they are not very absorbant... I'm just glad there are disposible diapers available. I couldn't imagine having to wash cloth diapers like my mom did

My mother used those cloth diapers when my little brother (who is now 23 yrs old) was a baby. I remember her rinsing them in the toilet and putting them all in a pail for the diaper service. they'd come deliver clean diapers every week and she'd give them the dirty ones. EWWWWE!! I would never use those! gross!

They do make the diapers way better then they did when I had my babies. My kids had rashes all the time. I went through so much penetan cream i think i kept them in business! Erika hasn't had 1 rash yet. The diapers are way better now then they used to be for sure!

I also use the huggies baby wipes. I buy the big bag of them (240) and they are awesome! Even those are better now! They're so thick and soft. I don't have to use 10 of them anymore!

are you going to put the baby in a crib right away or in a craddle first? We have a "family" craddle that my dad bought when krystal was born (she was their first grandchild) so it's become a tradition for us to use it for every baby born in the family. I found it kind of special that the craddle that krystal slept in, her daughter is now sleeping in. She will be going into the crib though in about a month or so.

I will be doing the cradel thing, if I have a boy I am going to lease one so I can return it in a couple months because I am not having any more children so I don't see the point in buying one UNLESS I have a girl then I will buy an inexpensive one and she can put her baby dolls in it when she is older..

I REALLY REALLY want a girl but I'll be just as happy with a boy

I never breast fed either. I preferred using a bottle. I used the concentrated formula stuff, then went to powder, then put the the kids on regular milk. I also did the cereal thing within the first month. My Mom said babies now don't sleep very long because they are hungry. Made sense to me. I was all about filling them up so they would sleep 6 hours at a time after the first month.

They change the 'feeding rules' all the time.....seems like every 5 years or so. I'm not sure they know what they are talking about. My kids were wonderfully healthy and ate very well. They didn't even have to take vitamins and such.

I used the expensive diapers until they were older. After that, I didn't care....whatever was on sale or I had a coupon for....I bought.

THANKS for the baby links for free items. I'll pass them on to my daughter in law tonight. As a matter of fact, we can both sign up for free stuff and double the loot!!

The first site only applies for Canada....I'll look for some USA sites.

I also gave my kids pablum within the first month and they were sleeping through the night at least 7 or 8 hours. I'm really tempted to start erika on the cereal. She was sleeping 7 hours through the night but now i find she's sleeping less than that. She's 2 months old. I think i will give her some at the last feeding and see what happens. My kids didn't die and they were healthy too and they got cereal at about 3 to 4 weeks old.

doubling up on the free stuff would be great! I was surprised the day I got a free can of formula! Powder though and i don't use powder but i can try it later on or maybe use it with her cereals.

now they say to feed the babies iron fortified formulas. So, i bought a case of enfamil A+ when i brought her home which costs me 45.00!! made her super gassy so my doctor told me to take her off of that and go to regular formula. she's been fine ever since.

I did the regular milk thing when they were 6 months old. right to 2%. now they say not until they're at least 1 year and it's homo...they do prefer 2 years though!! can you imagine? by the time my kids were 8 months old, they were drinking regular milk and eating what we were eating (I would put it in a blender). I can't believe how they change things all the time. I agree. I don't think they themselves really know what they're talking about. LOL!

I think extending breast feeding as long as possible has been linked to a lot of health benefits in children as they grow older.
