Women sue Wal-Mart over contraception

BOSTON, Massachusetts (AP) -- Three Massachusetts women backed by pro-abortion rights groups sued Wal-Mart on Wednesday, saying the retail giant violated state law by failing to stock emergency contraception pills in its pharmacies.
The suit filed in Suffolk Superior Court seeks a court order compelling the company to stock the so-called "morning after pill," in its 48 Massachusetts pharmacies.
"Wal-Mart apparently thinks it is above the law," said Sam Perkins, a lawyer for the three plaintiffs.
A new state law that took effect late last year following heated debate among lawmakers requires all hospitals to provide the morning-after pill to rape victims. It also allows pharmacists to dispense the pill without a prescription, but does not require it.
The lawsuit, backed by abortion rights groups Planned Parenthood of Massachusetts, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts and Jane Doe Inc., argues Wal-Mart is violating a state policy that requires pharmacies to provide all "commonly prescribed medicines." They are suing to force compliance with the regulation through the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act.
"Massachusetts pharmacies are required to stock all medications that are commonly prescribed to meet the usual needs of the community," Perkins said.
Dan Fogleman, a spokesman for Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart, said the company "chooses not to carry many products for business reasons," but he declined to elaborate

And if they had purchased the pill there and died from complications...they would sue for more.
If a female is old enough to have sex....she is old enough to use contraception and at the very least a condom. If she needs a 'morning after pill' and didn't plan ahead....she's too stupid to have sex with anyway.
WalMart is a privately owned corporation and can chose what and what not they want to put in their stores. They've made the same choice to avoid the 'morning after pill' just as most other pharmacies and grocery stores have. It's their right to do so. If a bunch of women can't THINK to purchase it at a store which does chose to carry it...it's their own fault.

But sex is the only thing in the world for which people do not need a license, or any qualifications, apparently. It is harder to become an underpaid slave at McJob. It is not hard to be clueless, and still you are allowed to have sex, and spawn minions.

You know... one of my daughter's best friend's mom is a manager at WalMart. I have no idea why they get such a bad rap...because she loves working there and has been there for over a decade. Granted, they don't pay a fortune...but neither does ANY retail store.
Some of the retarded a$$ed liberals over here don't like WalMart because they are too big to kick around. Some people don't have a lot of money and can't afford anything but WalMart. They are a fine store with great personnel, products and prices.
It's not their responsibility to provide anyone with a 'last minute ditch effort' regarding birth control. The people who keep breeding like rabbits probably wouldn't have enough money to purchase the pill anyway. They can get FREE protection at any female clinic or state paid doctor.

Did you read all the article? This isn't about another contraceptive product not being on the market, this is about making a statement about how the management sees abvortion/
and as far as I know, the management isn't there to have any opinion, but to provide good services to its costumers.
Merika says that if the woman is "dumb enough" and then she offers other alternatives. Sorry, on the spermicide jelly for women it is written "this is not an eatable product, it will not help you lose weight", etc. All costumers are dumb. And they have the right to prefer a specific product at a specific time.
What if they suddenly decided that Wallmart is bio and they'll simply sell only biological products because it is what they believe in - or it's where they have the biggest margins, if they say it's a business related decision. And then you'll pay everything 5 times more. It's about policy! When you are such a huge corporation, - they employ more people than you can find in 2 states - you are responsible for your costumers. This isn't about capitalism or democracy anymore.
It's about POLITICS!

i know its about politics, walmart is a conservative company and they are not controlled by the government so they should be allowed to sell or not sell anything they dont want to. If somebody wants the morning after pill they can go buy it somewhere else, CVS which is the largest drug retailer in massachusetts sells it, so she can go buy it there.
If walmart sold only bio products thats their choice its not up to the government or the customer to tell them what to sell, as long as they are earning money then there wont be any complaints from the shareholders(who are the most important)
Management is supposed to have an opinion, it just usually is the liberal opinion, like dont test cosmetics on animals even if thats the best way.
In this case nobody is hurt because they dont offer it, and nobody complained when they stopped selling guns in certain locations or violent video games.
Yes merika im a good republican, i just need a good republican women so that i can have god rpublican kids.

Understood but filing charges against a store because your poorly prepared is just plain stupid. Another seriously ridiculous example of how people want others to take the blame for their bad choices or stupid mistakes.

You are right. It IS a political statement. As DA pointed out...WalMart is a very conservative company...and so are most of their customers. They can either carry a product or not depending on if they thing their customers will purchase it enough to warrant the investment.
As in all political issues....the liberals don't always win. People get tired of their immorality being shoved down their throats. If they want to kill off their offspring...so be it. Maybe they will die out in a few generations and the world will be normal again.
