Wouldn't that be the same thought if taken the other way around?

If you are referring to people who take a pro-abortion stance and an anti-death penalty stance, than yes it is the same.
|
But many times that's EXACTLY the way it is.....and I find a conflict with that. I could understand someone going one way or the other.....but not mixing the two....where the criminal has more of a right to life than a unborn child/fetus.
This has been a puzzlement to me for many years...not based on my personal belief.....but just because it makes no sense. You are one of the few people who have ever seemed to notice they correlate.

I don't understand how one might think they are the same. An unborn child didn't commit any crime for deserving to recieve the death penalty. People on death row have made choices that landed themselves there. They are uncomparible IMHO

I'm so glad you weren't "at all trying to start an abortion debate," Merika!
The issue has almost no grey area and is very polarizing, and last but not least, my opinion means nothing unless I become a U.S. Supreme court justice, an unlikely event.
If I was so inclined with the zealous energy that some anti-abortionists have, then I would think it would be best spent funding and administering orphanages, adoption agencies, and sex-ed programs.

Interesting
I asked your question to experts in Media and Crime and Justice....
They ALL replied that it was outside their expertise

I totally see your point Dogula...IF you see a killing as a killing...period. I think that's fair and just.
I don't necessarily look at someone who's taken another person's life....not in every circumstance but the hard core murders....as someone who deserves to live out their own life. I don't look at taking that person's life as 'killing'....I look at it as 'justice'.
Is that the correct way to see it? Well...I don't know. People hae been polorized on that one for several decades.
Do I put that argument in the same arena as abortion? No....not really. The points aren't equivalent.
It doesn't lessen the points you or others are making though. I think we, as a society, SHOULD discuss those points and find some common ground.

I've been trying to stay out of this post but can't do it anymore...
I was Anti-Abortion 3 months ago, untill I was put in a situation where it was my choice. I don't think anybody really knows what they believe untill they have to have to face the decision.
After doing Studys for Hours and Hours I am now Pro Choice and will stick to that decision. Saying that, I am pregnat now and am 12 weeks, I know that I am growing a Baby, BUt right now it's a fetus, not a baby, I saw the ultra-sound it's just a little penut the size of a quarter... Would you call a Tad Poll a Frog or Does the Tad Poll have the potential to be a Frog? What about an Egg is it an Egg or dead chicken?
Food for thought

To me....for someone to come across as all judgemental and say they would NEVER get an abortion is probably not truthful. It's like someone saying they would never steal. Given a bad enough situation....a person may make any number of choices which wouldn't have been their first choice.
Many times....actions are based on circumstance. And as the old Indian saying goes.....Don't judge a person until you've walked a mile in their moccasins.
It sounds funny....but there is a lot of wisdom in that saying.
I like you DA...you never judge anyone. Maybe because you've faced enough life challenges to know....that life isn't always fair.

i do judge people, i just keep it to myself, my mom always told me, "if you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything" But that doesnt apply here, cause i dont have a bad opinion.

I'm the same way. I don't have to agree with someone at all to still respect and learn from their opinion.

Hey DA--Great to see you again.
Anyway, my two cents--I agree, it's inconsistent to say it's not a human when it comes to abortion, but it's fine to tack on as a human when it comes to murder charges.

Probally not unless Science finds a way to measure "souls" or awareness. Then the fetus could be tested to see if it is "alive"
Worded crappy I know - but you see my point
