Default Vets treating pets for marijuana misuse

David Sapsted from the Daily Telegraph writes:

Half of all vets are treating pets for the after-effects of cannabis consumption, a survey shows. Dogs are more likely to be affected, cats have become casual users of marijuana. Half of the 100 vets surveyed by "Petplan" said they had treated pets that appear to be suffering adverse effects after eating or inhaling "soft" drugs. It's not clear whether the drugs were accidentally consumed or deliberately fed to animals.
No reports of fatalities but the animals suffered from vomiting, dizziness, and temporary loss of movement. Some were given paracetamol or contraceptive pills and were monitored to ensure no vital organs failed.
Scott Miller, Petplan's consultant vet has treated several drug-related cases in his London surgery states: "This is a serious issue. You wouldn't leave drugs lying around for children to pick up, and we should be adopting the same levels of caution four our pets.
"It's horrifying that vets are seeing these cases at all, let alone when it is believed to be deliberate misuse."

My husband gives our Pit Bull beer. Everytime he cracks open a Heiniken (sp?) he opens one for the dog too and pours it in his water bowl.

I don't really think its so much a matter of owners feeding their animals dope, I think its more a matter of animals eating what their protecting.

Its very common practice to put a dog in charge of protecting your crop.

Well I know dogs aren't smoking dope. They lack the opposable thumbs to roll joints.

It is Heineken. And the Dutch are still divided on the quality of the beer .

Vautrin, I think that Heineken is nasty stuff myself. But thanks for the heads up on the spelling.

Over here we have hundred different kinds of beers. Amstel, Heineken, Grolsch are probably the most well known internationally. And of course a lot of lesser known beers, which are produced in very limited quantities, so you will have an extremely hard time to find them outside of the region where these beers are made.

It is weird. When I was in SA, Dutch beer was a lot cheaper there, than in the Netherlands itself. Luckily I do not drink beer at all anymore - I can't handle it very well.

Does the dog really like the beer? Perhaps your Pit Bull can decide which of the beers is the least terrible of the Dutch ones .
