Well, I meant tie him up instead of having him loose in the yard. If you're going to let your dog out, I think it would be best to chain him up so he doesn't get hit by a car or wonder off, or try to eat someone. :o lol

My dogs have harnesses too. They both hate them though, so I only make them wear them when I know they'll be on a leash.

I only use the harness when walking him or if we have company coming over...because he acts like a BIG SPAZ!! I wish he wouldn't get 'so excited' when people came in the door. He doesn't pee on the floor....but he jumps around and is totally goofy acting.

I was referring to people who chain their dogs outside all the time because they don't have a fence so the dog can run around. I also wouldn't use a chain as a collar. Then again, some dogs seem to do good chained up. Our dog would end up injuring himself.

My dogs are like that too! I hate it so much. They don't understand that jumping on grandma could really really hurt her. I always joke around and make fun of them for it. They're supposed to be guarding my house. I bet if someone broke in they'd great them with their toys and start licking their face.

Another amazing similarity between you and your pet

Well, my dog bites equally everyone, LOL. He hates it when we have visitors and is waiting for a chance to see a hand somewhat closer to the ground to ... attack . Yes, he is a Pekinese and it is mainly our fault for his education. So even if it's your purse, if it's on the ground... it's his territory! He hates everyone, some people more than others (like my oncle, lol).

But he isn't biting hard and after he bites the person, he adopts it irremediably. He's crazy about my best friend and about my sister's ex bf. He generally has a socializing problem. He does not like other dogs but he loves playing with them outside. Big dogs, LOL.

I love him to death, but I am grateful that he is not a big size dog.

EM, your dogs are awesome! I love the full blooded moo-moo pit you have!

I don't remeber who but someone said something about the dog hanging from a rope in a tree. My female pit does that. She loves to. It's a game to her. My male pit is to lazy to do that.

All my pits are on here...I don't have any recent pics of my male. He's the brindle one and my female is the light brown red nose....

Awe, that is so sad. There are lots of dog attacks but it seems like only those larger dogs like Pit Bulls, Dobies, Rotties, Chows, etc. make the news. Never mind talking about the reason they attacked - they were seriously provoked. If someone is in my space, pulling my hair, touching me when I don't want to be touched, talking in my face, or slapping at me or throwing things at me, and ignoring me when I tell them to stop (growl) then I probably will bitch-slap the person too. Since dogs don't slap - they bite.

I have been cautious around strange dogs, and I learned how to detect their stress points and to respect their space, but I've never been afraid of them for which I'm very glad. I've picked up some strays - including a very large pit bull who was obviously trained as a defense or fighting dog and had been neglected (maybe abused) - and had I been afraid I would never have saved his life - or the lives of the other dogs I've picked up and my life would not have been so full after having met so many of these wonderful dogs. I have five dogs at home now -- all strays, three with health problems, and one who is a fighter and can't bewith the others because it stresses her out. They all get quality time with us and are happy dogs - I just have to respect their individual needs and personality types.

I've had pit bulls, dobies, a rottenwiler and a chow-mix who were all just big babies. I have a 100 pound GS now that thinks he's a tiny dog - make that thinks he's a tiny LAP dog! He's knocked me down a couple of times trying to jump into my arms, and he's clumsy as all get out and everyone trips over him at sometime! Strangers stay back from him because he can look threatening and when he starts whining to go see new people it can be intimidating. They don't know that all he wants is a hug and a kiss! That old "I never meet a stranger" apply's to him. He loves everyone, he just doesn't realize how big he is.

One does need to recognize the signs of stress in different breeds, as well as in individual animals. I would not behave the same around a strange pit bull as I would a strange labrador because the overall personality traits in the breeds are different and they need to be approached in a different way - but I don't think Pit Bulls are bad dogs at all.

Thanks! Elvis is the world's biggest baby. He has that sad puppy look down to an art, even though he's well over a year old now.
