Never been given a pet. All those are family decisions. In principle there is no veto, but the only one opposed to more kitties is my dad .
Currently there are three at my parents.

I have never been given a pet for a gift and I have never given a pet as a gift. I like the idea but pets are a big deal and I wouldn't want someone to give me one. I want to pick it out myself.

I got my dog on my 9th birthday, he died...now I have two, one who is 6 years old and the other one 6 months still baby... I think that it depends...in my case I would really be happy to be given pets as gift...
