Feeding Pets
I'm sure I could look this up on the net....but does anyone know the rule of thumb for how much to feed a dog? I'm trying to get our dog down to only being fed once a day and I'm not sure how much to feed him according to weight. He will eat as much as you give him.....so that' s no help....but it DOES make a mess in the yard which Sn00py does not like to have to clean up any more often than necessary. LOL!

depending on the size of your dog. I have a small dish just made for the size of my dog and i only feed him once a day. I fill the dish up and when it's gone, that's it until the next day. I've always fed that way...even with cats.

if you go to the pet store and tell them what kind of dog you have, they'll know what size dish the dog should be eating out of. The dog is either small, medium or large. mine is a small dog (chihuahua & yorky). i had large dogs like sheppards and they had the big dishes to eat out of. once a day also. i guess a medium dog would be like a miniature colly or something like that.

We used to feed our dog whenever he emptied the bowl, and that normally took 1-3 days. A few years ago he started eating all of the food we gave him after a little while, so he gets a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening, plus a milkbone with each cup of food. He also gets the old dog food.

Okay....I got off my butt and checked the dog food bag. It says to feed him 6-10 cups a day for his current size and type of dog. GOOD GRIEF....I'm gonna go broke feeding the boy!
I also give him lots of treats. His favorite is those cheap frozen burritos and the p-nut butter I dab on his chewy snacks.

Feeding him cups isn't a good idea, why not try dog food?

When he was in great shape (walked 4 miles every day, barely ate) he weighed 55-60 pounds. He refuses to go on the long walks most the time and just goes around the block now, and eats the regulated amount of food and he probably weighs around 70 pounds.

So...only 2 cups a day fill him up? Poor Cracker would whine himself silly if that's all I fed him! He's such a big baby.
What kind of a dog do you have? Ours is a white boxer with different colored eyes. He's so silly looking.

From the thread where I posted the pictures. He is a mutt, some sort of a husky/setter/beagle. We got him from the michigan humane society so his mum was probably a stray.

WOW....he's so furry! Does he shed? Our dog sheds terribly. He loves to ride in the car and behaves real well in there.....but we have to vacuum it everytime or hair is everywhere. It drives me nuts.
