Dogs, cats and other pets

Out of some wierd thought...I assume our dog has more feelings than our cat (which we've had 6 years longer). Does anyone else feel that way about categorizing pets?

It seems the dog responds more to human emtion...but I wonder if that's really true?

What do you think?

I think dogs care more about you that themselves where as cats only care because their hungry.

Not true. If you have a bond with a cat, they perfectly understand when you are happy, sad, and even though they do not understand why (in case of emotional turmoil), they try everything to comfort you.

I think cats are way more emotional than dogs. When I was a small child, I used to think that cats were girls and dogs were boys. Or was it the other way around...girls are cats and boys are dogs...I'll have to think about that.

Assuming you can bond with a cat which I rarely see yet almost all dogs live through their masters.

And all cats through their slaves. They are much smarter than we give them credit for. And even that is a deception we feed ourselves.

My parents had a cat who was all about me. I could walk her, without a leash, as if she was a dog. I could call her, and she would always prefer to sleep in my room. I only had to enter a room where she was, and immediately she was up and about to ask me for my affections for her.

When I got mad at something, she was frightened - but always looked for ways to comfort me. When I was enraged, she would disappear as fast as she could. To make me immediately realize that my reaction was way over the top.

When I was away and returned from my trip to the US, she was so happy, and following me around, and bossing me around. Very affectionate. Sadly a few weeks later she got terribly ill, and could not eat anymore. What exactly happened is a mystery, but she had to be put down.

She owned me. I miss her.

I totally agree, Vautrin!! When our cat who was abandoned by a neighbour in Winter who moved and she had to fend for herself, saw my husband shovelling snow one day just before he got very ill and just stayed with him, and this cat hated everybody, no one could get close to her, (the neighbour is still trying and only gets paw smacks for her efforts). On the day I called the Ambulance for him, she rushed into the house, no kidding, I asked the Ambulance attendant to put her out, didn't know she was abandoned then. A few days later, she ran into our home again when we opened the door. Upon finding out from the neighbour that she was abandoned, I let her in to get warm, she decided to stay and has been here ever since! For months my husband was ill, and for months she stayed with him and kept him warm when he needed his rest so badly! It was and still is unbelievable to watch how she looks after him, and him her!

sorry to hear that too luba.... i got my son a kitten when he was 6 months old and they both "owned" eachother.... when caleb turned 10 tho simba too fell ill and had renal failure and unfortunately had to be put down.... it was very hard for my son. we planted an apple tree in the spot where we put simbas ashes... i know how hard it can be.... i now i have 3 burmese and himalayans and these cats own "us" i guess.... damn pooping machines they are!!

I think that's beautiful planting that tree where simbas ashes are...that must be comforting...

I never said cats were stupid at all, nor did I imply it I merely stated that they are more loyal and I stand behind the comment.

It's far more common to see a dog that lives for the master rather than a cat.

That is true. Cats are smarter, than picking a master. They pick their personnel, and teach them how the cat prefers to be handled and taken care of. They even let you think that you are the master. When in actuality it is all about them.
