Default Do family pets.....

REALLY teach children responsibility or only become more work for the parents?

My kids take care of their pets (Daughter - white cat) (Son - white boxer)....but only after I remind and remind until it would have been quicker to do it myself.

In the long run though....I believe it conveys that just like 'babies'....once you get past the cutie cuddly part....they are many years of hard work.

I think it teaches kids responsibility but kids are flighty anyway, it's a fact of life. I sometimes have to remind my daugter to put on her shoes before we go outside, her shoes for crying out loud. The same goes for her with brushing her teeth, cleaning her room, etc.

Kids have a lot going on in their heads, I know I did. I too had to be constantly reminded to do what I knew I had to. I think it's just the way it is and part of your role as a parent.

The other thing to remember is their brains are developing at an alarming rate. They learn every day where as we've pretty much leveled off as adults. It's quite possible that there's simply no room for the day to day in there anymore as there's new stuff that's buried it from the classroom, peers, etc. A simple reminder also means you have to communicate with your children daily which isn't such a bad thing.

You made me feel better. I was really worried my 12 year old son was going to grow up to be a MORON and need a wife to remind her of those types of things all the time.

Yeppers....we are communicating for sure. By the time he walks out of the house to go to school....I'm already exhausted. HAHA!

I guess it varies from child to child. My daughter was never like that. She is totally capable of getting up at 0500, getting herself ready and catching the bus to meet the RIDICULOUS school schedule they have for the high school kids where we live.

Good grief....only I would jack my own thread!

It's a proven fact that girls are more responsible than boys when it comes to virtually all aspects of life. Boys are too busy trying to kill themselves through stupidity than to actually adhere to a schedule. It also doesn't help a boy get to school on time if he's taken his clock apart.

I seriously wonder sometimes what women ever see in us? Maybe we're just genetically challenged.

Maybe this is why females were created with motherly instincts!

My Mom used to say that God created Eve because Adam was too much of a retard to run the garden by himself. HAHAHA!

I actually think that our instincts also come from our roles throughout history. Men can't bear children so naturally they would provide for their families and try to keep them well protected throughout time. This explains why men are more physically agressive and develop bigger muscle mass than women and why women are more sensitive, smaller and more in tune from a family sense.
