Default Site Outage

I apologize for the downtime we experienced tonight; it was my fault due to my misunderstanding of how PayPal works when credit card renewal is not input immediately.

To make a long story short, I pay my server dues through PayPal at the beginning of every month but in November my Credit Card expired and I hadn't updated my new card info until a few days ago. As a Verified Member I thought funds were processed through my personal bank account as it's listed as my backup payment option.

What I didn't realize is PayPal takes close to two weeks to verify payment from a bank account (at least it does with my bank). My payment is still pending verification even though funds were taken from my bank on the 2nd of December which essentially means I've been forced to pay close to $200.00 tonight to get us back online.

Frickin' PayPal, obviously Verified Member (4) means absolutely nothing even after 2 years as a member.

My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Sincerely,

Ken

That really sucks man but, um... Paypal is evil. PERIOD. You should find another way to pay....... I'll tell you why:

I sold a PSP with some games and accessories a couple years back on eBay and accepted Paypal for payment. (Had for a while, never any problems.) After TWO MONTHS I got an email from Paypal saying there was an investigation opened up because the buyer claimed she didn't receive the package.

...

SHE SIGNED FOR IT. I went to the USPS and got a copy of her signature, sent that along with my receipts from sending it, the delivery confirmation numbers and everything, and all the emails back and forth from this person (there were never any emails received from her at ALL after the package was shipped and they *never* left feedback on the transaction).

Paypal took the money from my account and put it in theirs. (My account was at a $0.00 balance so it went to -$350 something).

I hate them with a passion. I was forced to file bankruptcy recently and you bet your ass they were the first thing I listed.

Now, I practically can never use eBay again because it seems that 99% of the people on there accept Paypal ONLY.

It's ridiculous. I'd been a member of eBay since April 1999 and never had not ONE single negative feedback. NEVER. Of course, I still don't but.. like I said - almost everyone requires you to have a Paypal account now. :: sigh ::

PAYPAL

-EDIT-
Another note, this was THE one and only thing I allowed myself to purchase for myself that whole entire year and I had it all of one month. Why did I sell it?
I needed rent money. :: sigh ::

Default Re: Site Outage

Dec 22, 2007, it appears as if the server was down for a minimum of 60 minutes (when I noticed the sites offline), possibly longer. I've a support ticket in with our webhosting company and will update you all whatever reasons I'm given.

I've also made them aware that server performance has been degrading since mid November simply because I've noticed an increase in both site hang times and downtime frequency. My worry is that we're on the verge of a hardware failure so I'd like to catch it before our databases suffer.
