Default IUDs

Didn't know if I should post this here on in Health but anyhoo....

I was REALLY hoping for a tubal after Alexander was born but my docs are AGAINST IT totally. I've relied on condoms since I was 19 b/c I had such a problem with hormone regulating birthcontrol- they make me REALLY sick. Obviously that lil plan finally backfired.

So now my doc is recommending an IUD- they are supposed to be much better than the old copper versions and the hormones are localized in the uterus which SHOULD help w/the reactions I had w/pills. I don't really know anyone w/an IUD though to get a 1st hand opinion.

Does anyone have any input on IUDs? Thanks!

Default IUD'S

Hi Fayebelle
I'm fairly new to this site and haven't posted, but this is something I know about.

I had an IUD for five years. Never had one problem. The only thing you may have a longer menstral cycle and minor cramping. After a few months, the cramping does go away.
I probably would have continued to use an IUD except I was getting a divorce from my husband and my Dr. said you should only use an IUD when you are in a monogomous relationship.
At that point, I was single and dating, so I opted to go back on the pill.

This was many years ago so I had one of those old copper ones. I hear the new ones are way better.
BTW How old are you? If you don't want to have more children, why would your doc say no to tubal? Too young?
I think you should try the IUD. It's way more effective than condoms.

Have you ever discussed Depo- Provarra with your doc? It's an injection.
My daughter is 25. She has used it because she also has problems with pills. We discussed her having an IUD but because she's not in a long-term relationship, I didn't think it was a good idea.

Anyway, hope this helped a bit. Keep me posted.

Intra uterine device aka coil

The new hormone release ones are a zillion times better than the old copper ones. No cramps, no nasty complications and no periods. The hormone dose is much lower than the pill or the depo as it's delivered locally.
