How to flirt...I give up.
Ok, so some people are just good at this. How do they do it.
I'm confident when I talk, and I'm confident that I'm confident when I talk, but the whole getting over the shy thing gets to me. No clue how to get over that hump there.
I give up on the whole flirting, I want to impress you thing. Just gotta be myself.

Flirting is actually supposed to be subtle and should be an extension of who you normally are. I know that I've been nailed on the whole "were you flirting with her?" question and I had to think about what I said to realize that I was. It's also much more fun to be a bit less direct and just toss in compliments or nice things while you talk to a gal your interested in. It also seems to keep the conversation going and soon enough, she's tossing the niceties back in your direction.
It's actually my favorite part of the whole dating scene. Now I'm content to just flirt a bit and then go home and be done with it.

DA!!! 8O Never had you pegged as a gigilo!
I don't know TZ...some people really ARE better at flirting than others....but it has a small value compared to finding a real relationship with someone who just likes you for who you are. Flirting is a game and not everyone is looking to play. If you are around someone you are truly interested in....just be you.

Just saw Wedding Crashers at midnight tonight. Now while it was a funny movie, for the first bit of the movie, the guys are just sleazy. It had just reminded me of this thread though.

I am a terrible flirt also. I am highly conservative in that department ("You are European", I hear you all say ). It is one of those things, I will never be good at.
I must say that I did not lose out on a single relationship because of that.

As someone who is totally unfamiliar what goes on in Louisianna, I wonder if you would care to elaborate? I will get the strangest idea, if I don't receive an answer to this.

Louisiana is rather a backwater state. Not really the part I live in, but some of the tiny towns you won't find on a map. We're like hillbilly's feuding...just with less teeth and a Cajun accent in those parts.

I love flirting but I have no idea if I'm any good at it. I don't do it with everyone. It's like finding something funny, you just do or you don't. It has to come naturally.
Shyness often results in people concentrating most of their attention on themselves, leaving less to observe and interact with the other person. It's an unintentional self obsession.
By trying to impress, you are more likely to be self conscious. That will direct your attention the wrong way. Forget about impressing people and concentrate on them and enjoying their company instead. Flirting is a form of flattery, a way of showing appreciation. It's also fun. People who do it usually do so because they enjoy it, rather than to achieve anything or create an impression.
