Forget waxed chests and rock-hard abs. A new survey finds ladies like their men scruffy, a wee bit chubby - and definitely not a metrosexual.

Playgirl asked 2,000 of its readers what they find sexy in a man and the answers were surprising: 42% said they thought love handles were kind of sexy and 47% approved of chest hair.

The mag, which often features toned, hairless males in its beefcake photo spreads, is now searching for a man who meets readers' standards.

Average Joes everywhere can send photos to models@playgirlmag.com to compete for a shot at a pictorial in a future issue.

Rich playboys need not apply - only 4% of women said the size of a man's wallet mattered. Metrosexuals are also out: 73% want a guy who is "rough around the edges."

"This survey shows that the guy who's most attractive to our readers is not your average Hollywood hunk," said Playgirl editrix Jill Sieracki. "It's the average Joe who came up on top. Women are practical about their choices, and they're smart."

New York matchmaker Janis Spindel, a self-described specialist at setting up "highly successful, well-educated, attractive professionals," confirmed the survey's findings. "It's scary, but women don't care [about looks]," she said. "Men are very superficial and very shallow."

But Spindel disputed the claim that women don't care about finding a rich man: "Women want a man who makes more money than they do," she said. "They want to be able to live a comfortable lifestyle."

i think i'm 50/50 on the choice between "heterosexual" and the "rough around the edges" type of guy.. i just don't like when the guy isn't at least a litte bit stronger(buffer) than i am hahhaa

What is the age range of this survey? I bet it's the older ones that approved. I've been with 2, yes TWO, girls that liked chest hair. That's about 8% of my total - kind of contradictory in comparison with the survey. I've also asked all my girl friends about chest hair too and they all say it's nasty. This is coming from 2 different provinces, 2 different states and 8 different cities (Yeah I moved around alot) - not just one area.

Average well to do guy competes with very attractive, but broke 7-11 guy for the same girl. I'm putting down $100 that Average guy wins. Sorry ladies, we all know you like to be pampered. (Yes I know there are a FEW exceptions to the rule)...

Not all metros are flamboyantly straight. Infact, any woman that is not a tree hugger, punk, or older type that I have met prefers the well dressed, clean cut (or stylish facial hair) guy. Again, there are a few exceptions...but that's just it, a few.

Seriously, what are the ages of the women that took this survey?!? Have they been out to the social hot spots around the continent? Geebus, it's all about who looks the best, who can hook up with the hottest guy/girl, putting on your best face and giving it your all. Sad to say, but it's true now a days with the 18-25 year olds.

I've gotten women when I was really skinny and when I was way overweight. It never really mattered, at least in my case. I'm not in my prime form right now either and I know of at least two gals who are interested in me.

I have to agree, that survey can not possibly be accurate!! I think they seriously under estimated the "BIG" wallet issue. Most women i've dated were more interested in my wallet than they were in me. Sad, and makes me feel like utter crap, but true.

Although one thing that i've always found women like in men, at least in America, for some crazy reason they all like bald men/men that shave their heads! I wonder why? I've hardly ever found women that liked big men though, i wonder if it's that we intimidate women cause of our size? That's new one on me! Could be a good thing for me though, as i'm not very small. 6'1, 240. Maybe i'll start getting more dates now? Maybe i should shave my head too? hehe

Hey I slept with 3 people when I had hair. I've had like 10x that amount since i shaved my head....just make sure you don't have a weird shaped head!

I like some chest hair, not a gorilla. I don't like bald. I do like men who are bigger and taller than me. I would prefer someone not too overweight but then I am no ballerina so I can't complain about weight too much, definitely no jaba's. As far as money, I would like them to be self sufficient but they don't have to be rich. I have felt this way since I was in my 20s but then I am only one of many.
