Default engagement rings

How important is the size of the diamond? I have some friends that want a huge ring and others that dont really care.

I have a really nice engagement ring that hubby got me one valentine's day. The diamond is pretty big.

That's my 2nd ring from my hubby. my first one wasn't so big of a diamond but I didn't care (I lost it. ). A ring is a ring and it's the meaning behind the ring that i cared about. I've always been that way. I've had a few engagement rings in my life and everytime, I couldn't care less of what size the diamond was. All that mattered to me is the love that it symbolized. I was never a materialistic kind of girl.

I'm not sure that all women care about the size of the diamond. I know the few times I purchased various rings for my galfriends, they were more impressed that I got the setting right other than what the jewel was.

Noah's father gave me a good size ring but I made him take it back because he bought it at walmart!!! ( I pick some winners huh!!)

Before I dated Greg I always thought I wanted expensive jewerly ect but
Greg always went crazy when he purchased jewerly for christmas he spent like 2K on diamond earings I gladly accepted but I would have rather had a new couch  Now I don't care for jewerly I kind of think the money is a waste, if any man wanted to propose to me and knock me off my socks I would be just as happy with an modern art oil painting..... Why does it have to be a ring anyway?

Suprise her with a house and say "will you marry me" that is much more origional!! ( OK DA I know I spelt that wrong LMAO) Plus a house goes up in value a ring loses value.

I seen a movie with steve martin and goldie hawn where steve was engaged to another woman and he bought her a house as an engagement thing. he brought her to the house (that he designed himself, since he played an architect) and proposed and she says no!!!!! I couldn't believe that one! goldie moved in, they fell in love and lived happily ever after in that big beautiful house! I wish I could remember the title to that movie?!?

I saw that one too but can't remember it.

I'd rather buy a ring than a house for my potential partner. Lots of women say no to the "m" word too so buying a love nest for your gal is just st00pid IMHO. Also, an acceptance to your proposal isn't a lock that you'll trip down the isle either.

it would be perfect for couples like hubby and i. we were living together for 6 years before we got married so if he had bought me a house while he proposed, i would've loved it!

now if i were to be offered a house everytime i got proposed to in the past, they would've wasted their money on that. i didn't end marrying those guys. I guess you'd have to be 100% sure that the end result would be a YES.

I agree.

I also think it's very important to live together prior to marriage, that way you know what to expect.
