This is outstanding information. I liked the cumulative hours waited for internet to download this year in real time figures.

Which area did you find interesting?

Sounds like something I don't dare look at before going to work, I won't have time to check out the other threads; will definitely check it out later...

The number of lightning strikes really surprises me. We barely have lightning in this part of the country, and if we do, it is only a few times in the year.

And the cumulative waiting hours for downloads is massively scary.

I wonder how they calculate how much time people actually wait for downloads?

You could use the data of a few companies (in research), the number of downloads that are made, and guess a bit more.

As far as I understand it, they simply take the expected count for the whole year, divide it by the number of seconds in a year, and keep adding the count / second for each second. Not too complicated (at least for most statistics).

AHHH Dammit....I thought it was up to the minute accurate. I guess I can quit holding my breath while watching the energy produced -vs- usage. LOL!

I was looking at: "miles Earth has traveled in space within our Solar System this year" and calculated the earth is traveling through space at 1,000 miles per minute. So if I was to leave the earth for like 3 minutes, I could be in Florida. Hmmm he says as he goes to work on his anti-gravity engine. :jedisled:

Adonai, if you know the distance from the Earth to the sun, you can just as easily calculate the distance the earth covers in a whole year, by multiplying that distance with pi.

Divide that by the number of seconds in a year, et voila.

That is why the formulas are made very simple, .
