I have a 15 mile commute with no towns in the middle, one night I was driving my brothers truck. He had been working on his truck on took off the spare and forgot to put it back on before I borrowed his truck. I got a flat tire about 7 miles out of town. It was 25 degrees with 40 mph winds, which gives it a wind chill factor of 6 degrees (which is -14 for you metric people). There was snow on the ground but it wasn't snowing. There was plenty of traffic, so I tried to hitch-hike out, after 15 minutes I decided that I would probably freeze before I got a ride, so I walked out. I was frozen when I got to town, the first building I came to was a bar, after a hot tottie, I was fine. Called my brother and he brought the spare and we changed it in no time.

Waiting our turn at a "stop" sign...then my husband and another guy pushed it out of the way and got the truck towed home.

well it didn't break down, but it ran out of gas. it was the big work truck down in arizona and my cousin shawn was driving. the way he drives though, his arms block the gas gauge. so we ran out of gas in the ghetto crack area of down town phoenix arizona....and i'm talking nasty scared for your life ghetto they show in the movies.
so we hung out at the truck where we had our trusty sledge hammers just in case and waited for bob to come bring us some gas.
i really was scared for my life, we were the only 2 white guys there.

After a car accident with the back windscreen smashed in, glass everywhere, kids crying, on a hill, waiting for police, blocking traffic, in the rain, late for a flight.

I was 19 and driving myself from Long Beach, CA to Rapid City, SD to start college (a 3 day drive). I had my brother's old car and it was packed everywhere except where I was sitting. I got a flat tire on a freeway interchange about 50 miles from Victorville, CA (the middle of the desert and nothing around). It was about 9 PM but still daylight because it was summer and I had to dig the spare and jack out of the trunk since all my worldly belongings were on top. I had never changed a tire but had watched my brothers do it so I figured I better see what I could do. No one stopped to help and when the semis went by I thought my car would blow off the jacks. I managed to get the tire changed but my spare was in pretty bad shape so I drove on to Victorville, frightened the whole time that my spare would blow too, and got there around midnight. I was fortunate enough to find a gas station open that had tires and a mechanic to help me out. I was back on the road by 1:30 am. I was extremely frightened that some freak would stop to help but at the same time miffed that no one even attempted it. Great life lesson for me.

That is awful tkdlady.
Never had a vehicle break down on me. But I have never driven a car either. So what could go wrong?
Luba: this reminded me of the episode of "Married with Children."
Al had to return even though he was already in Milwaukee (coming from Chicago), because his car could not handle the speed bump there.

I've never seen that episode, Vautrin, though I have a DVD containing a lot of the "Married with Chilren" shows! I would have loved to see that one....just what you wrote has me in hysterics, I can really picture it
