Weirdest thing you did as a child

I was reflecting back to my childhood due to a post here about me being ambidextrous and was wondering what was the weirdest thing you did as a kid. It could be something you changed about yourself, something you thought, etc.

In my case I was not born ambidextrous, I made myself so with lots of hard work. I was pre-dominantly left handed as a young boy but decided to switch to using my right hand as I was the only lefty (that I knew of) in grade school. I went through a real tough period when my site failed in grade 2 or 3 (I was blind for a few seconds, then when my vision came back everything was foggy) and ended up wearing glasses. I didn't realize it at the time, but my self-esteem took a real beating so in an attempt to draw less attention to myself, I switched hands. To this day I am now pre-dominantly right handed but play pool, drive, clean, etc, left handed. Any detail work such as painting is done switching from left to right and I draw and right all with my right hand.

Besides stalking girls? I watched mary poppins over a 1000 times and would watch the chimney sweep song many more then that. I still know the words,lol

Strangest thing? Hmmm.... I've done tons of strange things as a kid don't know what to pick!

I tried to have a bonfire in a plastic wheelbarrel one time. How strange is that?!? and I remember wondering why the fire fell through the barrel! I got caught and got grounded for that one. Never tried that again! 8O

lol, my brother and I set a plastic warship on fire in the bathtub half full of water. It made the house stink really badly but sure gave the boat an authentic war look and feel.

In the summer after 9th grade, I lived on Sanford Lake (ok, beside it). My best friend and I were walking beside the road that runs parralel to the lake and a truck filled with older kids that went to our school. As they passed, one of them flipped us the bird. Being the impetuous youths that we were, I turned around as they passed and grabbed my crotch and Steve returned the finger. The truck slowed down and ironically used MY driveway to turn around. Steve and I knew that four on two were not good odds so we headed to the lake shore, took our shoes off and got ready to jump in and swim for the beach across the way - however instead we said "I think they went past" and stood there barefoot as three of the four came around the bush we were hiding near. As fate would have it I was in front on the path that was only wide enough for one person when the thug - I'll call him Troy (honestly I forget his name but it was something like that) Stepped up to me and asked why I gave them the bird. Not wanting to get into the fact that I only grabbed my crotch at them, I decided to say..."For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction - you flipped me off and I returned it" Troy says "how you gonna react to this?" And punches me in the eye. THen he says if you want to continue this, meet us up on the road. I proceeded to put my shoes on and head to the road when I heard the truck pulling away. I was so livid that I ended up walking to his house that night (7 miles) and essentially I ruined his car. Now I feel very bad about that but at the time, it felt great - especially when I saw he wasn't driving it to school anymore. Troy and I actually became pretty good friends in my sophomore year and a curiosity got the better of me. He rode my bus to school and I asked him one day why he wasn't driving anymore - that's when he said the engine was ruined. Ok, that was my intent when I got my revenge but like I said I feel bad about it now.

If there's a moral here I'll be darned if I can find it.

So much for equal and opposite reaction. With my luck I'll punch you in the arm once as guys typically do and wake up the next morning with no legs.

It wasn't so much that he punched me, but that he didn't give me the oppurtunity to at least get some licks in. I had to vent my rage - hopefully I'm a lot calmer person now.

I could speak both English and German, therefore, my pretend friend and I spoke back and forth with me speaking English and she speaking German. To convince my cousins and other friends she was real.... I would put my hand over my mouth and talk for her thinking the other kids would think she was real because she spoke another language. It had to be really STUPID looking......

I also skipped school for two days before the Christmas break when I was in 9th grade.....only to come back and find I had been moved to my Mother's class and had to hand her my absentee thing to sign. THAT was a bad moment.

Other than that, I rarely did anything wrong while growing up. Both of my parents will say I was a perfect child. I never got in trouble or came home late. I did everything my parents told me to do, my bedroom was spotless and I made good grades.

Then I became an adult....and something went terribly wrong.....LMAO!

Too many to mention. Often they were dares and I just couldn't resist doing them. I swallowed dice from a classroom game of snakes and ladders so that my obsessive teacher would have a fit when they couldn't be found. I snipped the plait of a particularly annoying girl who sat in front of me in needlework. I set fire to our childhood den (we lived in an apartment block) and had to be rescued by the gardener who I then bribed so he wouldn't tell our parents. There's more but that's quite enough for now
