That is not a stupid question. But a very complicated one.
Probably because they deem it most advantegeous to themselves. As long as you don't know of their Janus-like behavior they can still take advantage of you.
Why do ice hockey players only get dismissed for the game if they seriously injury a player, as opposed to normal civil life, in which case you would be sent to jail for a couple of years?

Re: Stupid, random, questions.
You sign a disclaimer to play at a professional level and agree to the physical aspects of whatever sport you play. Nobody signs a disclaimer to walk down the street and not be tackled.
Why is the cost of everything going up but our wages always stay the same?

Re: Stupid, random, questions.
That is because we have to pay for the wage increases of the incompetents (our bosses). Actually our wages are in real terms declining for the most part.
Why do people hate to queue up to go to work (rush hour), but enjoy queuing up in order to go to the beach??

Re: Stupid, random, questions.
One is for personal enjoyment while the other is a responsibility.
Why is it hardest to sleep when you need it most?

Because you are too intent to sleep.
Why do a lot of people know it is bad for one's health to smoke, but thoroughly enjoy the fumes of traffic, more especially of race cars?
BTW, I ran in another issue. I have my options set to "display newest posts first." So that on the last page of a thread the oldest messages are displayed. When I use the quicklink from the 'last post'section, I get reffered to the oldest messages. I think this may well be a software bug.

I actually don't know the answer to this because I don't like the smell of any car with the only exception being the smell of gasoline.
I would wager a guess that exhaust fumes are not being rolled up and inhaled as tobacco is so the health risk they pose to the average person is far less than that of a cancer stick. It could also be that racing is an adrenaline sport and since your being entertained, it's easier to ignore the unpleasantness of fumes and noise.
Why are we as a society, losing contact with each other and no longer openly friendly?

The arrow.
I think your adrenaline / entertainment idea may well be spot on.

Re: Stupid, random, questions.
Because we are closing down the public sphere. No agora (market places, parks, et cetera), where people can walk around, run into each other and chat. All these places are "too expensive", thus all kinds of fancy projects are realized instead. What a waste of community money.
In my home village, there are 6 soccer fields. 4 of them are never used, but are inaccessible to anyone who may want to play for simple enjoyment. As youth cannot do anything, youth misbehave (as they have no place where they can actually DO something). As a result all kinds of projects are started to dump them in the middle of somewhere. Huge expenses, but don't expect much return. Yay to the lawyers ; yay to the people who prefer not to invest in our youth .
Another issue is scale. If you ever lived in a rural area, you know that it is normal to greet everyone in the street. You know everyone, everybody knows he / she is part of the community. Not so in cities.
Time is everything these days. Especially on the job, but that of course applies to off the job as well. As friendliness costs time, it is uneconomical, and people don't engage in it too often.
Why do people laugh a bit, when a loved one has a minor freakish accident happen to him / her? (eg. dropping a pan to the floor)

Re: Stupid, random, questions.
If I click the topic title, it will bring me to the last ten posts, as it should.

I'll have to try it myself and then report it to the dev at vB.org.
Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Stupid, random, questions.
The text displayed when hovering above the arrow iis "go to last" post as well. So something is amiss.
